- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current National Registered Paramedic/ Emergency Medical Technician certification.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current Hazardous Materials certification.
Qualifications
FOR GS-09 Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-08 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:1) Direct/deploy firefighting personnel and equipment during emergencies and non-emergency situations; 2) Interfacing in fire department programs such as breathing air systems, personal protective equipment, purchasing/credit card holder, health and safety, fire department accreditation, or similar programs; 3) Applies advanced medical treatment protocols and administers various medications via multiple routes. Administers intravenous fluids via venous cannulation and/or intraosseous routes and calculates appropriate drip rates under the direction of standing orders. Operates and interprets electro-cardiograms, pulse oximetry, end-tidal CO2, and other advanced diagnostic equipment. Inventories and maintains physician-controlled items and controlled substances and 4) Directing attack for the effective control and extinguishment of fires, managing emergency medical patient care and ground ambulance transport for single- and multi-patient incidents, managing hazardous materials and special operations emergencies, and managing other threats and emergencies in order to save lives and property, and preserve the mission of the Installation and Region.

***This position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications: Firefighter I and II, Driver Operator-Pumper, AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support, AHA Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), CPR (BLS for Health Care Providers), and National Registry EMT-PARAMEDIC. These certifications must have been awarded by DoD, IFSAC or ProBoard to meet the requirement. If you do not possess all of the above certifications and you have not attached copies of your certifications, you will be rated ineligible. HPR/MPR is authorized by the Command in accordance with Local Pay Setting Guide, if applicable.
Typical work week is 72-hour week on a 24 hours on/24 hour off basis that includes weekends, and holidays. May be subject to recall and overtime.
If selected below the full performance level, you may be noncompetitively promoted to the next higher grade level after meeting all regulatory requirements, and upon the recommendation of management. Promotion is neither implied nor guaranteed.
Physical Demand: Will be required to work under extreme pressure and cope with stressful situations where confusion, panic, injury, or death may occur.
Work Environment: will be exposed to out-of-control fires, HAZMAT spills, or possible explosions. May suffer burns, dehydrations, and other effects of heat; smoke inhalation, heavy protective clothing, falling materials, or explosions. Subject to physical injury and sensory damage from firefighting activities, exposure to HAZMAT, rescue operations, and high noise levels.
Several vacancies may be filled.
A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if the selectee fails to meet the pre-employment requirements, including failure to report to any of the scheduled appointments.
