Are you looking for a blended role of firmware and software? Badger Meter is looking for a Firmware Test Engineer I in our Global Headquarters in Milwaukee, WI to work on our innovative products in the smart water technology space.

The Firmware Test Engineer I performs maintenance on existing firmware products under direct supervision. Assists in coding, testing, and debugging new firmware or making enhancements to existing firmware/software for internal and external customers. Writes programs according to engineering specifications to test firmware product features quickly and effectively. Makes suggestions for problem solutions or enhancements to the code. May assist in the development of user manuals. Works with technical staff to learn and understand problems with the firmware products.

Badger Meter's Firmware Test Engineer I role offers an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate or early-career professional to gain hands-on experience in the water industryCollaborating with multi-discipline teams to implement products, customer troubleshooting, and creating test plans.

Job Duties:

  • Support the full application lifecycle from design to successful operation in production.
  • Project Analysis and Definition.
  • Project Design.
  • Project Firmware Test Plan Support.
  • Product Implementation and Testing.
  • Detect and report program bugs
  • Fully Document Firmware Code based on High Level/ Low-Level Requirements.
  • Supporting incoming priorities of multiple teams that require integration testing
  • Collaborate with other Engineers, Managers, QA, and Operations to ensure that the firmware solutions meet our reliability and performance goals.
  • Product Installation and Release.
  • Provides status and updates, for the designated portion of the project, to the supervisor or project manager.
  • Stays current with advancements in firmware development technology.
  • Investigate customer RMI issues as needed.
  • Designing the technical approach to the implementation step for all projects using generally accepted engineering tools and procedures.
  • Performing software/firmware design, coding, and testing that is needed to complete the assignment.
  • Developing and maintaining self-improvement programs and automated scripts to optimize testing and developmental efforts
  • Performing other functions as directed by the Firmware project Engineer, or Engineering Manager.
  • Investigate customer issues for firmware performance to identify product solutions.
  • Travel to customer sites for product beta testing and investigation of customer issues as needed.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field
  • No prior experience required

Qualifications:

  • Python and C, programming experience.
  • Maintaining and upgrading existing software testing applications written in Python.
  • Familiar with MS Visual Studio, software development concepts, and tools.
  • Experience with communication protocols preferred
  • Solid foundation with engineering fundamentals
  • Familiarity in testing tools such as Oscilloscope, Power Analyzer, etc.
  • Ability to manage automated testing and support new test procedures
  • Ability to apply engineering fundamentals to test scenarios
  • Ability to apply engineering fundamentals to troubleshooting
  • Ability to analyze tolerances on a design
