Florida Playbook Writer

POLITICO is seeking a dynamic, creative and enterprising journalist to anchor our coverage of Florida politics and author Florida Playbook, the most authoritative political newsletter in the state. This is a high-profile, high-stakes position for a reporter who wants to set the agenda.

We're looking for someone with a track record of political scoops and the drive to be the first to know what's happening in the most interesting state in the nation. This reporter should have a strong grasp of Florida politics and a passion for sleuthing out the dynamics that drive the day, especially the policies and politics of Gov. Ron DeSantis. They must have a lively writing voice that engages our deep subscriber list each morning.

What You'll Do:

• Work with POLITICO's team in Florida and at its headquarters in Washington to break news and cover political dynamics with a special focus on the governor.
• Build a deep source base in Florida by regularly meeting with operatives, lawmakers, staff, lobbyists and policy advocates.
• Track daily developments of high interest to our readers.
• Make regular appearances on television and radio.
• Serve as an ambassador for our coverage through POLITICO events.

What You'll Need:

• A deep knowledge of Florida politics, including the key players and forces driving elections across the state and the legislative process in Tallahassee.
• Excellent reporting skills, including the ability to break news on a regular basis.
• Strong news judgment and a sense for which stories will resonate with POLITICO's audience.
• An engaging voice and knack for breaking down politics for Florida insiders and a sophisticated national audience.
• The entrepreneurial drive to produce one of POLITICO's most-read publications on a daily basis and experiment with new features.
• The ability to work independently yet in close coordination with editors in Washington.
• The entrepreneurial drive to innovate and experiment with new approaches.
