Qualifications

Specialized Experience Requirement:
GS-08. Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07. Examples include:
  • Performed limited timber sale preparation duties and collected timber presale information data;
  • Monitored and inspected timber sales with conventional contract requirements and conditions;
  • Interpreted and explained timber sale contract provisions to the timber operator; and
  • Inspected ongoing timber sales for compliance with contract clauses.
GS-9. Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-08. Examples include:
  • Performed timber sale preparation duties and collected timber presale information data;
  • Administered timber sale contracts with conventional contract requirements and conditions;
  • Monitored and inspected timber sale operations having conventional contract requirements and conditions; and
  • Prepared written reports of all sale inspections and made follow-ups on deficiencies.
GS-10. Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09. Examples include:
  • Administered timber sale contracts; Identified resource concerns on the ground and coordinated applicable corrective measures;
  • Performed timber sale preparation duties and collected timber presale information data as well as completing appraisals of timber sales and selecting of contract provisions based on NEPA documents; and
  • Conducted cruises of timber stands to determine volume of merchantable timber, species composition, accessibility, and environmental constraints.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

There is no substitution of education for specialized experience.

The USDA Forest Service has legislative authority to recruit and fill Permanent (Career/Career-Conditional), Temporary, and Term Appointments under the USDA Demonstration Project. Under this authority, any U.S. citizen may apply.

This position may be eligible to telework up to four days per week, based upon the duties of the position. This position may also be eligible for flexible work arrangements as determined by agency policy and any applicable collective bargaining agreements.

Positions filled will be full-time; or full-time seasonal with either 13 pay periods of guaranteed pay status and 13 pay periods of non-pay time or 18 pay periods of guaranteed pay status and 8 pay periods of non-pay time.
