FP&A Manager - Capital Markets and Principal Investments (CM/PI)
Job Description
The FP&A CM/PI team monitors the financial performance of Baird's Capital Markets (CM) and Principal Investments (PI) businesses and using key metrics and operating results, provides financial analysis and advice to assist with operating and strategic decisions. In addition to current results, FP&A prepares forward looking information, including the budget, to illustrate future trends in the business. The team works with Baird departments and gathering information to evaluate trends and business opportunities. FP&A has extensive interaction with senior leadership in the business units (typically the Chief Operating Officer, Executive Committee Members, and Business Unit Board Members) as well as the Finance Reporting and Associate Financial Services teams within the Finance Department.
The FP&A CM/PI manager leads a team of associates (potentially including senior analysts, analysts, and interns) with a primary focus on coaching and development.
As an FP&A Manager, your responsibilities will include:
- Business Unit Reporting and Analysis: Using a consulting mindset, develops and provides the business unit and CRG leaders with analysis of performance, financial modeling, and ad-hoc reporting to support strategic initiatives.
- Financial Close: Participating in the monthly close process by providing input data to the Financial Reporting team as well as communication of variances, key operating metrics, highlights, and financial performance to multiple audiences. Develops specific action plans to address financial/accounting needs of clients and firm.
- Budgeting: Overseeing the process of updating the annual budget and any interim financial forecast or projections by supporting interactions with business unit leaders. This includes responsibility for providing relevant summary information to senior management as appropriate.
- Business Unit Knowledge: Monitoring stock market activity, the interest rate environment and the overall economy in order to understand the impact of external events on the Firm, CRG and Asset Management.
- Data Analytics & Innovation: Through their team and by utilizing Baird systems, provides valuable analytics that provide insight to the business, particularly those pertaining to CRG non-compensation spend and Asset Management AUM, and utilizes an innovative mindset to drive continuous process improvement.
- Special Projects: Lead key team-wide or department-wide initiatives to improve overall performance and support strategic initiatives.
- Team Management/Development: Responsible for the management and development of associates including activities such as recruitment, retention, performance management, training and career guidance.
What we need from you:
1. Bachelor's degree in Business (Finance or Accounting preferred) with a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience.
2. Previous experience directly managing others preferred.
3. Strong management skills with attention to detail, organized, and ability to multi-task and manage several projects simultaneously along with recurring work.
4. Superior client service focus including both delivering on and anticipating requests. Utilizes a consulting mindset that is business focused to achieve results for clients.
5. Strong written and verbal communications skills. Dynamic communicator with adaptability to connect with different styles of clients & associates.
6. Driven and determined with strong self-initiative, desire for continuous learning.
7. Desire and ability to identify and lead process improvements.
