About the Role

The FPGA Firmware Engineer will design, implement, and debug logic for high speed serial protocol host controllers. Unlike regular host controllers, ours need special features for efficient functional and reliability testing of the link. You will work with a cross-functional team to bring up, debug and validate such systems.

About the Work

• Most of our FPGAs are large Xilinx devices with a lot of internal logic and RAM. Most of our designs have not made extensive use of DSP or embedded processors. This may change.
• Our designs typically have a complicated clocking structure with various synchronous, asynchronous and plesiochronous clocks. Some clocks dynamically switch frequency.
• We are less concerned about power-saving techniques than many consumer applications.
• We use some bought-in IP from third parties and our FW engineers may need to communicate with the IP vendor for support. We also use the IP included with the FPGA development tools.
• We frequently use scripting to automate routine tasks, such as FPGA builds.
• Our development groups are often geographically diverse. At some points in the project travel to another location may be needed.

Requirements

About You

• Strong experience with Verilog, simulation, FPGA development (Vivado) and scripting tools (e.g. TCL, Perl)
• 5+ years FPGA general experience with at least 1 year of modern Xilinx FPGAs
• Knowledge of place and route, timing, and synthesis constraints on FPGA
• Knowledge of high-speed interfaces and communication protocols (e.g. PCIe, UFS, DDR, etc.)
• Knowledge of internal busses (e.g. AXI, AXI-S)
• Skills to design FPGA modules using multiple clock domains
• Hands-on experience with lab equipment and hardware bring-up
• Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose at system and module levels

Bonus Point

• Experience with developing ATE
• Experience with PHY layer design for bit rates of over 10 Gb/s.
• Experience with C++
• Experience with Linux, SVN
• Knowledge of peripheral interfaces (e.g. SPI, I2C)
• Can communicate in Japanese
