- Fresh Truck mobile markets bring affordable, healthy food closer to low-income neighborhoods throughout Boston
- Fresh Connect is a digital payment platform that enables healthcare providers to subsidize the cost of healthy food for patients and analyze the health-related impacts of improved diets.
Job DescriptionÂ
The Fresh Truck Operations Assistants play a crucial role in the Mobile Market team. They strive to make the shopping experience delightful and unique for our customers. This position requires a versatile set of skills, including food handling, inventory management, and customer service. We seek an individual who has an unwavering enthusiasm for promoting fresh produce, fostering community connections, and advocating for food equity to join our team.
As part of your role as Operations Assistant, you will be supervised by the Market Manager Lead and overseen by Market Managers at weekly and pop-up markets and online order pick-up. Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing friendly, efficient, and courteous customer service to maintain a positive experience for market customers.
- Loading produce onto mobile markets and arranging them on shelves for display.Â
- Checking produce quality and ensuring that it meets company standards.
- Checking out customers and helping them with their purchases.
- Training volunteers on the tasks assigned to them and the company’s policies.
- Bagging and restocking produce as needed.Â
- Distributing online orders as delegated.
- Organizing the warehouse after produce load-in/out.
- Maintaining Fresh Truck equipment to ensure operational efficiency.
- Conducting inventory checks and completing online inventory reports to ensure that products are adequately stocked.Â
- Cleaning mobile markets at the end of your shift.Â
- Answering customer questions and helping them with their needs.
- Acting as an ambassador and educator for SNAP/HIP/EBT and other local/state/federal public benefits that increase people's purchasing power (appropriate training will be provided).
- Supporting adherence to COVID safety protocols at market locations.
- Driving an extended cargo van, 19 feet long, when necessary.Â
- Working on at least one working group or special project to design and implement projects that impact the community, including social action activities, operations projects, and support work to improve our environmental footprint.

- Being multilingual (Spanish, Haitian Creole, Portuguese, Cantonese, Vietnamese, Russian) is a huge plus,Â
- You understand and are prepared to troubleshoot emergent issues/challenges that come along with working with vulnerable populations. Additional training will be provided.
- Relentless organizer (community and operational) capable of improvising to ensure positive, justice-based market experience as well as operational delivery and fulfillment
- Have the drive to show up and do the work in very hot and very cold conditions, remembering that the work that we do is important and necessary.
- Background and knowledge in volunteer and community work is a plus.Â
- Understanding food justice and food systems is a plus.
- Grit - you’re willing to get your hands dirty, comfortable with some heavy lifting
- Some experiences in one or a combination of the following: customer service, operations and supply chain management, food/grocery retail, and/or food service; experience with an early-stage startup is a plus.
Requirements
- A valid Massachusetts Driver’s license with a good driving record points no higher than 4
- Ability to lift ~50lb on a regular basis
- Work collaboratively across the About Fresh team
- Ability to work a flexible schedule Monday through Saturday (35-40 hours, always paid for a 40-hour workweek; overtime available when necessary)
- Ability to use tools and equipment, including box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and other machinery if necessary
- Ability to work in a wet, hot, and cold environment
- Positive attitude and love for food and people
