Fuel Performance Engineering Intern

Job Summary

As a member of the Kairos Power fuel performance team the applicant will be responsible for running TRISO fuel calculations with the fuel performance code KP-BISON and reporting results in a timely and professional manner. The main project of interest involves assisting in the planning, executing, and write up of uncertainty quantification approaches for KP-BISON TRISO simulations. With cumulative goal of demonstrating fuel performance results and margins with uncertainty.

Responsibilities

• Model fuel and simulate performance of KP-FHR TRISO fuel 
• Document efforts in the form of technical reports, engineering calculations, or engineering studies
• Develop and execute of first of a kind methodology for KP-FHR systems
• Support V&V of fuel performance code, KP-BISON 
• Establish common data transfer interfaces and automation as needed
• Participate in development and code improvement efforts commensurate with experience and ability
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Current student pursuing Bachelors, Masters or PhD degree in Nuclear Engineering, Physics, Material Science, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics or similar discipline
• Knowledge of TRISO fuel and the BISON fuel performance code are required 
• Engineering/scientific judgment and critical thinking with data analysis
• Team player with excellent verbal, written communication/presentation, and interpersonal skills
• Familiarity with C++, Python or other scripting tools
• Experience in uncertainty quantification method desirable

The hourly range for this position is $28-$32 for employees working onsite at our Alameda, CA headquarters or $25-$29 for remote employees working in California.
