Fund Accountant

Firm Description

MSD Capital, L.P.  is a private investment firm established in 1998 to exclusively manage the assets of Michael Dell and his family. MSD Capital engages in a broad range of investment activities and has the flexibility to invest in a wide variety of asset classes. MSD has offices located in New York and West Palm Beach.

Role Description

Reporting to the Fund Controllers, this position is responsible for all accounting-related activities. This includes maintaining books and records, interacting with counterparties, tax team, legal and compliance, and fund administrator, as well as working closely with investment professionals to provide data and support as required.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain books and records, process various investment-related transactions in Advent Geneva accounting system
• Prepare partner allocations for various entities in Geneva World Investor and Excel
• Prepare tax packages for various entities
• Reviewing daily P/L, exposure and valuation reporting
• Reconcile daily cash balances and be responsible for cash movements
• Reconcile receivables/payables
• Prepare monthly valuation testing schedules
• Prepare quarterly investor statements
• Perform Monthly and Quarterly close, including closing of trial balances, and preparation of supporting documentation for internal investment portfolios
• Review offering documents, including fund marketing materials
• Prepare and review year-end US GAAP financials

Qualifications & Desired Attributes  

• 3-5 years of experience in hedge and/or private equity fund administration, or a mix of public CPA and fund administration experience
• Advanced user of Microsoft Excel
• Experience reviewing and calculating IRRs and MOICs
• Familiarity with accounting portfolio systems; i.e., Advent Geneva and World Investor preferred
• CPA is a plus, knowledge of partnership accounting and taxation is a plus
• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or relevant major; related experience in financial services with a preference for buy-side experience.
• Motivated team player who can take on many roles & projects supporting a lean team; ability to work independently, take initiative, and deliver results in a timely manner.
• Ability to perform and deliver at a high-level within a fast paced, entrepreneurial culture with a focus on excellence.
• Superior communication skills and ability to articulate views in a clear and succinct manner both written and verbal; capable of explaining complex technical concepts succinctly and effectively.
• Ability to develop strong working relationships; must possess interpersonal and collaboration skills with ability to communicate across all business levels.
• Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities.

Base salary expectations: $110k-120k
