What is the key purpose of an Engineer at Taboola? 

Our R&D team based in Los Angeles has teams that focus on Frontend, Backend, Data Science, DevOps, and Product. You will directly contribute to building and improving Taboola’s current recommendation infrastructure. Our Engineering Team builds high-scale, web and mobile e-commerce applications that run non-stop around the globe. We work in small collaborative teams to architect massively scalable and reliable systems. As you can imagine, this team is crucial for Taboola’s cookie-less future and contributes to our publishers and advertisers success.

Currently, Taboola is serving 360 billion recommendations to over 1 billion unique visitors each month on the web’s most innovative publisher sites.

What skills and qualifications do I need?

For our Data Science team, we’re looking for: 

• Master’s degree is required, Ph.D degree is preferred 
• CS, EE, Physics or Computational Economics majors are preferred 
• Prior work experience in statistics, data mining and predictive modeling
• Prior programming experience in Java/Scala and/or Python
• Prior exposure to popular machine learning frameworks, such as PyTorch, Tensorflow
• Experience collecting data from/exposing data to various data sources and services (API, JSON, XML)
• Prior SQL and database experience

For our Backend Engineering team, we’re looking for: 

• BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent
• Fluency in one of the major programming languages such as Java/C++/Python
• Prior experience with SQL and NoSQL.
• Exposure to big data tools: Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, HBase, etc.
• Working knowledge or previous experience in API creation, design and data manipulation.

For our Frontend Engineering team, we’re looking for:

• BS or MS in Computer Science or equivalent
• Prior programming experience with building frontend web components using JavaScript and JS libraries like React or Angular
• Experience in building platform side JavaScript that is lightweight, efficient, scalable, non-interfering and cross browser compatible
• Production systems understanding (system architecture of web products)
• Passion for solving problems, and working very close to the business stakeholders

• Proven ability to effectively work cross functionally

For our DevOps Engineering team, we’re looking for:

• Experience in engineering best practices (code-reviews, testing coverage, agile methodologies)
• Familiarity with the open source community
• Proven experience with CentOS and Ubuntu
• Experience with high scale and high availability environments
• Highly Proficient in Maven and Java
• Deep understanding of configuration management tools solutions
• Experience with CI solutions
• Knowledge in GIT

For our Product Engineering team, we’re looking for:

• Prior experience in Product Management of B2B/B2C SaaS based products
• A solid background in Computer Science or equivalent, prior experience with AI and affinity to online publishing
• Highly analytical and expert critical thinking abilities
• Proven experience in crafting user facing products based on user research and data
• Strong leadership and organizational skills in prioritizing and effectively working with engineering, analytics and design teams

What will I be doing on a day-to-day basis?

As an Engineer at Taboola, you will: 

• Identify relevant solutions for various product initiatives based on the team you are working with
• Design and build predictive customer behavior models for targeting and personalization
• Implement the applicable Machine Learning or statistics based algorithm for prediction and optimization
• Present findings to product team and technical team leads in a clear and actionable way  
• Design, build and support algorithms of data transformation, conversion, computation on Hadoop, Spark and other distributed Big Data Systems
• Learn our agile SCRUM process, coding standards and business use cases
• Work on projects alongside our engineers from inception through to production release and user acceptance
