In this role, you will support the design and development activities in the Powertrain Center of Expertise department. Your development activities will also support our robust Defense Engineering, Current Products, and EV initiatives. You will be a key contributor to development of transmission bearing designs for multiple Allison Transmission products. This specialized role will provide you with the unique opportunity to contribute multiple Allison Transmission products while assigned to the Powertrain Center of Expertise department. You will also focus on the Allison Transmission growth strategies to support the 5 of the 6 key focus areas:
- North American On Highway
- North American Off Highway
- Outside North America On Highway
- Outside North America Off Highway
- Defense
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Design and analysis of bushings, thrust washers and roller bearings for planetary, countershaft and bevel gear systems.
- Provide horizontal technical support to the engineering organization.
- Perform design trade-offs and optimizations.
- Technical support during Concept validation to Production Validation phases.
- Supports system and component-level tests and/or development programs.
- Coordinates engineering projects with other departments or suppliers.
- System level analysis and bearing interactions with adjacent/supporting components.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- 7-10 years of experience in a product engineering role.
- Bearing design and/or bearing analysis experience (i.e. bearing sizing/selection, bearing life calculations, contact stress, lube requirements and mechanical efficiency).
- Strong analytical ability.
- Experience in performing FEA and advanced stress analysis.
- Experience using SMT Masta and/or RomaxDesigner CAE software.
- Proficient in Siemens NX design software.
- Excellent written and spoken English required.
- Experience in bearing failure analysis required.
- Demonstrate experience in layout, GD&T and tribology.
