General Counsel

About the Role:

As General Counsel at Industrious, you will lead all of the company’s legal efforts. This is an exciting and challenging opportunity as you help navigate the legal needs of a high growth company that is changing rapidly. In this role you’ll advise on a wide range of topics, including the following:

• Corporate transactions and capital markets work: As General Counsel, you will manage our legal efforts related to mergers & acquisitions, equity fundraising, debt and other capital markets work, and the complex task of gearing the company up for an IPO.
• General in-house legal work: You’ll oversee the internal legal needs of a growing company, from employment related work, to managing legal risk in the business, to thousands of contracts with vendors, partners, or general contractors, to issues of compliance with state and federal law across our various business lines. This will also include management of any litigation, should it arise.
• Network expansion:  The aggressive expansion of our network through partnership agreements with landlords will require a high output of work from our real estate focused legal team, which you will manage.
• Board Oversight: As General Counsel, you will play a vital role in managing oversight and decision-making processes with our Board of Directors, and will play an active role in the planning and execution of the company’s quarterly board meetings and committee meetings.
• Performance management and hiring: You’ll be responsible for managing a high-performing legal team at Industrious, and for hiring new talent as needed. We’re looking for someone who has a strong track record of leadership and a skilled eye at identifying exceptional talent during a hiring process.

What We’re Looking For:

• 15+ years of experience within a law firm or in-house legal department 
• Experience in a wide range of business law matters, including privacy, equity and debt financing, mergers and acquisitions, corporate, commercial, employment, leasing, and international compliance/regulations. IPO or other public market experience is a plus.
• Creative, entrepreneurial, quick thinking, pragmatic business oriented advice and ability to properly balance risks and business reward; ability to craft legal solutions in novel ways is essential.
• Highly motivated, efficient, and organized; able to juggle multiple projects at a time in a fast-paced environment, both collaborating as a team and working independently
• Experience collaborating in a multi-stakeholder environment, managing complex projects, and driving solutions cross-functionally
• Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal and ability to advocate for a position while maintaining an open-minded approach.
• Comfort with rolling up your sleeves and doing your own drafting, commenting, or other legal work when necessary
