Job Description
General Objectives:
• Run a private security cooperative business.
• Lead recruitment efforts and develop a close working relationship with the Astoria and Long Island City communities.
• Build a portfolio of clients and cultivate a network of partners.
• Responsibilities:
• Direct the development, implementation, and management of a comprehensive security firm and of its programs.
• Supervise implementation of approved security plans for clients and confirm their effectiveness. Services include but are not limited to: facilities protection, workplace security, travel security, personal security and event protection.
• Maintain consistent communications and flow of information with clients, cooperative members, security personnel and other stakeholders.
• Stay abreast of new security standards and guidelines, and incorporate them into projects.
• Assess and address all potential or emergent security concerns for clients due to theft, vandalism, sabotage, or other identified illegal or unauthorized activities.
• Collaborate with local workforce development organizations to conduct recruitment and oversee training of hires.
• Supervise obtainment of certifications and licenses by hires and maintain compliance with all regulations.
• Secure contracts and generate a stream of leads.
• Build relationships with regional peers and leaders across the field. Network with partners and peers in the industry and in the worker cooperative world, and share best practices.
• Maintain strong communication and support links with New York City Emergency Services, Federal Law Enforcement, and local law enforcement, emergency services, and regulatory agencies across the U.S.
Qualifications:
• Minimum requirements: Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice or related field with 7-10 years of supervisory/management experience in security or a related field.Experience in law enforcement a plus.
• Strong interpersonal skills required.
• Excellent spoken and written English communication skills a must. Bilingual a plus.
• Knowledge of security guard license law and safety protocols required.
• Strong cultural awareness required, and experience working in a multi-cultural and democratic workplace strongly preferred.
• Working knowledge of established corporate security practices and delivery of services within a business environment, and working knowledge of patrol techniques.
• Experience in sales and/or community outreach helpful.
• Comprehensive experience with design and implementation of physical security programs and associated equipment/hardware, to include: access control systems, CCTV systems, alarm systems, communications systems, fire alarm systems, and uniform guard service operations and management.
• Experience in Crisis Management planning, training and reporting.
• Security risk management and threat analysis skills and demonstrated skill in writing and review of security procedures and plans.
• Experience in performing sensitive investigations, in a variety of scenarios, and ability to problem-solve in real-time and to coordinate preparedness plans in crisis situations.
• Board Certification in Security Management (CPP) or Board Certification in Physical Security (PSP) a plus.
