Your Opportunity
The role of the Geologist is to perform program research, planning and development, permitting, compliance monitoring, inspections/enforcement, and technical support services in relation to water, waste, corrective action, mining, biology, and other environmental programs. You will also write reports, develop plans, and implement steps to move projects toward closure in the most cost-effective manner.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Prepares or leads in the development of work scope, schedule, and budget definition for proposals.
- Assists in planning the execution of work, including subcontractor procurement.
- Reviews subcontractor submittals including work plans, health and safety plans, and quality control plans.
- Conducts multi-media sampling, including soil, groundwater, and other regulated materials.
- Conducts oversight and coordination efforts in response to spills, alarms, or other client requests.
- Conducts oversight of subcontractors, including utility locators, drillers (direct push, sonic, and hollow stem auger), remediation contractors, surveyors, and emergency response contractors
- Manages the remediation system operation and maintenance, including troubleshooting, minor repairs and/or modifications.
- Evaluates compliance of subcontractor work against technical specifications and scopes of work
- Demonstrates competency in a combination of areas including field supervision, technical knowledge and task management.
- Conducts complex scientific assessment and analysis.
- Oversees the preparation of remedial investigation reports, remedial/corrective action plans, remedial designs, due diligence reports, and related documents; Includes work summaries, data summaries, engineering calculations, summary tables, figures, engineering drawings and specifications, and report text.
- Assists Project Manager with cost and schedule control.
- Exemplify Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Policies, Procedures, Standards and Guidelines in the execution of all work.
- Assignments/projects are advanced in nature and require the application of mature knowledge.
- Responsible for planning and conducting assignments/projects having broad scope for independent accomplishment and coordination of difficult tasks.
- Provide supervision, training, technical direction and mentoring to more junior staff.
- Executes specific technical tasks or requirements for medium to large projects.
- Conduct peer reviews of routine and moderately complex work by colleagues or more junior practitioners.
- Qualifies as a Quality Reviewer and undertakes Quality Reviews of moderate to large deliverables.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Promotes policies and procedures for HSSE, including client-specific training (if applicable)
- Advanced skills in technical writing
- Sound skill in communications and technical information exchange with clients, engineers and scientists, government regulators and agencies, and academia, as well as non-technical communication to the public
- Proven ability to provide written and verbal direction on project delivery.
- Leader able to demonstrate value of continuous improvement of technical performance.
- Champions new ideas and initiatives and creates an environment that supports creativity and innovation.
- Maintains productive professional and personal networking relationships.
- Drives collaborative efforts within the region and beyond to deliver consistent, high quality and appropriately scoped technical work.
- At least four years of experience successfully executing technical aspects of medium to complex projects.
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in Geoscience, Engineering, or related field. Licensed Professional Engineer/Geologist.
Minimum 5 years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education (e.g., advanced degree) and experience.
The ability and willingness to travel regionally, but mostly in Ohio, Indiana, Tennessee and West Virginia up to 40 percent of time.
Ability to lift and move items and equipment up to 50 lbs.
