Job Overview

Hubbell Utility Solutions (HUS) engages in the design and manufacture of a wide variety of products used by utilities. Today, HUS is also deeply engaged in product solutions for the Utility Communications and Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) space and has been actively growing that segment of the business. HUS roots have historically been in high voltage transmission, distribution, substation, underground products used by electric utilities. HUS products are also used in the civil construction, transportation, gas, and water industries.

HUS has four business units. Hubbell Power Systems (HPS) is our electrical components and infrastructure business. Aclara is our AMI and Meters business and also includes an installation business. Hubbell Gas Connectors and Accessories (HGCA) sells connectors and accessories for the repair, replacement and refurbishment of natural gas systems. Our fourth business is our Protection and Controls business which is our newest business initiative to drive substation communications, control and protection solutions. HUS provides these solutions in the Electric Utility, Water, Gas and Communications Market.

Position Overview

Use Geographic Information System (GIS) and wireless planning software to design private area networks for utility customers deploying AMR solutions. Prepare and deliver wireless network designs for RFP / RFQ responses that ensure networks meet budgetary and performance requirements.

A Day In The Life

Conduct propagation studies to design the most reliable and efficient private area networks for utility customers

Create high-quality static and interactive maps for analysis, presentation and review (internal and external)

Collect, process and summarize customer data to ensure design meets all network requirements

Perform analysis using ArcGIS, EDX Signal Pro, or other pertinent software in a variety of projects ranging from full network design to Geocoding

Support Project Managers with siting, deployment and final network design to ensure proper network coverage for current and future products

Communicate in a detailed and logical style in order to convey complex geographic data to Project Managers, Sales Directors and Clients

Coordinate with team to maintain standard management of GIS data.

The ability to multi-task on several projects and work in a fast-paced environment.

Make presentations to small or large groups

What will help you thrive in this role?

Bachelor's degree in GIS, Geography, Planning or Computer Science or a related field

Working knowledge of Google Earth

Advanced cartography skills

Advanced understanding of Geographic coordinate systems (State Plane, Latitude/Longitude)

Outstanding written and oral communication skills

Proficiency in MS Office suite

Radio Frequency (RF) Knowledge and experience

Experience with Creating and Editing Geodatabases

Programming skills (Visual Basic, Python)

Knowledge with ArcGIS Extensions( Spatial Analyst, 3D Analyst, Geostatistical Analyst)

Understanding of statistical analysis principles

2 years of experience working directly with GIS data

2 years working with ESRI ArcGIS Desktop Suite
