GIS Engineer

About the Role:

We are seeking a GIS Engineer who will be responsible for creating and maintaining high-definition Geo-spatial data in support of the self-driving technology. Moreover, you will also be responsible for developing algorithms, processes, and tools in support of automating the entire map creation & maintenance process. The scope of this position includes communicating with other teams regarding map updates, performing updates, and helping to improve the efficiency of the process.

What you'll do:

• Analyze and improve current map creation and maintenance algorithms, ensuring our self-driving vehicles have the most accurate maps, to drive safely and smoothly on the road.
• Improve map creation and maintenance processes.
• Review and investigate disengagement reports and logs, provide solutions to enhance product quality.
• Research the state-of-the-art mapping algorithms and apply excellent algorithm design and programming skills to improve our software.
• Prototype and deploy robust and reliable solutions to map creation and maintenance problems.
• Collaborate closely with a creative team of engineers and researchers.

What you'll need to succeed:

• Either M.Sc. degree in GIS, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics OR B.Sc. degree + 2 years of industry experience.
• Strong algorithm design and Python programming skills
• Familiar with Linux development
• Experience with Java programming is a plus.
• Experience with geospatial data or multidimensional data is a plus.
• Experience with GIS, ArcGIS/QGIS is a plus
• Experience with ROS (Robot Operating System) is a plus
• Comfortable with 3D geometry and coordinate transforms
• Good communication skills and being able to collaborate efficiently with others to come up with an optimal system design and software architecture.
• Ability to identify & handle edge cases. Be able to collaborate with other team members to do integration testing.
