GIS Software Engineer

 Duties/Responsibilities:

GAMA-1 Technologies, LLC seeks a highly experienced remote Senior Software GIS Engineer to join our team in support of the NWS Office of Water Prediction’s National Water Model (NWM). As a member of the NWM Team, they will help deploy the prototype NWM into operations. Once in operations, design and implement new systems and features, as well as modify and maintain existing systems for adaptation to business and/or technology changes. The senior software engineer works closely with management, development teams, technical delivery teams, and testers to ensure the successful design, development, and delivery of a technology-based solution for the NWM. They should have the ability to prioritize well, communicate clearly, have a consistent track record of delivery, and excellent software engineering skills. They must be able to work across multiple facets of the project while using strong analytic capabilities to create innovative solutions. 

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Experience with ESRI or ArcGIS products
• Experience with cloud technology stack and RDBS (AWS, IaC, Kubernetes, Postgres, SQL, Oracle)
• Experience with C, C++, Python, and similar languages
• Experience working on a team using Agile development methodologies. 
• Knowledge of Geospatial and FIM (Flood inundation Mapping) services, implementing new and enhanced prediction capability in near real-time.
• Understanding of NWM (National Water Model) and its configurations:

• Understanding of RFCs (River Forecast Centers) - HEC-RAS (Hydrologic Engineering Center - River Analysis System)
• Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) Based Height Above Nearest Drainage (HAND) Capabilities

• Proficiency in the full software development life cycle
• Experience working on Unix platforms
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Experience with version control systems (GitHub, SVN, BitBucket, etc.) in a team environment

Education and Experience:

• BS in Computer Science, Environmental Science, or other related technical discipline AND 8+ years of experience with large scale software development and operational maintenance. 

Preferred Certifications: 

• Esri Enterprise GIS Certificate
• AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner
