Job Description

Team: Analyst

This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a GIS Specialist in the United States.
In this role, you will apply your geospatial expertise to support high-impact environmental and carbon projects across diverse international landscapes. You will transform complex spatial datasets into audit-ready deliverables, maps, and workflows that meet rigorous standards. Working closely with cross-functional teams, including restoration ecologists, carbon scientists, and project managers, you will help ensure that geospatial outputs are accurate, reproducible, and actionable. You will leverage satellite imagery, drone data, and remote sensing technologies to assess land suitability, monitor project progress, and provide decision-ready insights. This position offers the opportunity to shape global carbon initiatives, support verified restoration projects, and contribute directly to climate-positive outcomes.

Accountabilities:

  • Develop and maintain high-quality, audit-ready geospatial datasets and documentation to support carbon project validation and verification
  • Produce print-ready cartographic outputs and map products for reports, monitoring plans, and stakeholder communications
  • Conduct land suitability analyses using remote sensing, including drone and LiDAR data integration
  • Design, document, and automate spatial analysis workflows in Python, R, or Google Earth Engine for forest monitoring and project performance tracking
  • Organize, analyze, and visualize geospatial data using ArcGIS Pro, applying advanced symbology and layout tools
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure geospatial deliverables meet methodology standards (e.g., VM0033, VM0047)
  • Partner with external stakeholders to support mapping of projects and provide drone mapping guidance as needed
  • Maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for GIS workflows to ensure consistency, reproducibility, and efficiency
  • Support field teams with geospatial data requirements and participate in occasional site visits
  • Requirements
  • 3+ years of experience using Esri or QGIS software with a focus on cartographic design and geospatial data management
  • Strong proficiency in Python or R for automation, data processing, and spatial analysis
  • Experience with Google Earth Engine for large-scale remote sensing analysis
  • Knowledge of voluntary carbon market (VCM) standards and at least one methodology, e.g., VM0033, VM0047, or equivalent AFOLU
  • Familiarity with PostgreSQL/PostGIS for geospatial databases
  • Hands-on experience in forestry or ecological restoration projects
  • Proficiency with AI-assisted coding or GIS workflow tools (e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot) to improve efficiency and analytical scope
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, in English
  • Experience preparing deliverables for audits or third-party verification is a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in GIS, Environmental Science, Forestry, or a related discipline
  • Benefits
  • Salary range: $70,000 – $90,000, depending on location and experience, plus equity and benefits
  • Flexible remote work arrangements (East Coast preferred)
  • Opportunity to work on high-impact, international carbon and restoration projects
  • Exposure to cutting-edge geospatial technologies and remote sensing workflows
  • Collaborative, mission-driven work environment contributing directly to global climate solutions
  • Professional growth opportunities in GIS, environmental science, and sustainability sectors
