Your Job

The Intern Glass Working Specialist will play a crucial role in the production of custom glass rod and tube preforms used in the manufacturing of specialty optical fiber. This position offers an opportunity for contribution motivated individuals to gain hands-on experience and develop their skills in a technical manufacturing environment. The intern will work under the guidance of experienced engineer/glass working specialists.

For this role, we anticipate paying $21- $23 per hour

What You Will Do

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including production and engineering, to gain the specialized skills necessary to build custom glass rod and tube preforms used in the manufacturing of specialty optical fiber
  • Apply glass working techniques such as cutting, grinding, polishing, and shaping to create high-quality glass materials
  • Demonstrate a commitment to integrity by upholding ethical principles, maintaining confidentiality, and adhering to company policies and procedures
  • Contribute to process improvement initiatives, working collaboratively with the team to enhance production efficiency and product quality
  • Embrace the principles of stewardship & compliance by following safety protocols, minimizing waste, and promoting environmentally responsible practices
  • Approach work with humility and respect, valuing teamwork, diversity, and open communication

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • Currently enrolled in a degree program in glass technology or materials science

What Will Put You Ahead

  • Basic knowledge of glass working techniques and processes
  • Familiarity with glass working tools, equipment, and machinery
