Join our diverse, global team of talented people, and be inspired to grow every day.The DBS Director is responsible for promoting and facilitating the successful implementation of the Danaher Business System (DBS) at Leica Biosystems (LBS), allowing sites to meet their Policy Deployment (PD) and Key Performance Indicator (KPI) targets. This role is broadly separated into two key components.Support Innovation activities in the Digital Pathology Business Unit located in Vista, CA. The Director will own the development and execution of a multi-year Innovation roadmap to enable the acceleration of Core Growth generated from new product development. Innovation tools and frameworks such as the Innovation Engine will be leveraged to advance Innovation capability. Lead a highly strategic and influential team of 4 to 6 individual contributors comprised of Lean and Innovation DBSLs in three countries across three sites; Vista, CA, Shanghai, and Melbourne will report into this position. Responsibilities beyond developing the team include driving site specific KPIs and DBS capability building.The Danaher Business System (DBS) is our proven system for achieving success. Our DBS tools are designed to help us excel in the areas of Growth, Leadership, and Lean, building on a strong foundation of DBS fundamentals (Voice of Customer,Value Stream Mapping, Standard Work, Transactional Process Improvement, Kaizen, 5S, Problem Solving, and Visual & Daily Management).Major Responsibilities
- Lead a team of DBS practitioners across three countries in support of both Innovation and Lean
- Partner with the Digital Pathology L1 leader and Vista, CA site leader to identify and prioritize improvement opportunities through direct collaboration, facilitation of Kaizen events, and coaching/mentoring associates.
- Partner with site leaders to ensure alignment of a DBS roadmap to meet PD/CVD/KPI requirements and DBS Sustainability
- Continuously advance DBS capabilities at accountable sites by leveraging the DBS Playbooks and corresponding action plans
- Act as subject matter authority in support of Innovation to perpetuate proper application and impact of the Innovation DBS tools while facilitating best practice sharing and benchmarking.
- Leverage experience as a DBS practitioner to support Lean initiatives and Lean DBSL direct reports.
- Drive improved CVD (Core Value Driver) performance through training, coaching, and application of the DBS Fundamentals and appropriate segment tools.
- Directly provide formal and informal DBS training and coaching at all levels and at Gemba. Help build and utilize a community of DBS Certified Practitioners and professionals to drive awareness, interest, and usage of DBS tools
- Promote and facilitate diagnosis of workflow impediments and other wastes throughout the business, and provide expert counsel on appropriate DBS tools to eliminate them
- BS or BA Degree in Engineering or Business required; Master's Degree preferred
- Strong demonstrated success in New Product Development, preferred in medical device products
- 10+ years of product development and project management experience with demonstrated success leading teams in a global environment
- Experience managing people
- Demonstrated successful experience as DBS Leader with extensive DBS experience in key DBS Tools: New Product Development, Operations, Danaher Reliability System, Supply Chain, and the Danaher Materials System.
- Ability to work with functions in the implementation of the DBS roadmap; practitioner of change management, able to handle conflict / ambiguity
- Superior skills in communications, training / adult learning, consulting / influencing; teamwork across disciplines, regions, and cultures
- Ability to accurately assess key business metrics and situations from a "general manager's" point of view
- Master's Degree in Business, Engineering, or Science
- Fluency in a variety of different languages (e.g., German, Spanish, French, etc) in addition to English.
- Experience developing and owning strategic plan initiatives and in year execution (e.g., Policy Deployment)
- Ideally familiar with driving change in regulated environments (e.g., FDA)
- Hands-on experience implementing DBS (or TPS) in a line Leader role
- Willingness to travel (often internationally); 25% travel if located in the San Diego area; 50%-75% travel required if outside of San Diego.
- This role is based in the US, preferably Southern California
