Job Description

High Point University is currently seeking a full-time Global Education Coordinator. The Global Education Coordinator works primarily with short-term, faculty-led study abroad programs managed by High Point University. This is a high-visibility position where customer service, public speaking, and presentation skills are important. Additionally, the Coordinator will manage Office of Global Education communications and promotional efforts including social media, general email and phone inquiries, print and graphic communications, and campus presentations, while also assisting with the daily operation of the Office of Global Education, including the supervision of student employees and the planning of campus events. Some advisement of students interested in semester study abroad opportunities will also be expected. Occasional weekend work is required.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

Education: 

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master's degree in International Studies, Intercultural Communication, International Business, Higher Education Administration, or a related field is preferred. 

 

Experience and Training: 

  • Demonstrated excellence in customer service and professional communications. 

  • Experience studying or working abroad. 

  • Experience with programming, budgeting, and recruiting related to study abroad. 

  • One to two years of experience in an institution of higher education and/or with working with various constituents in a professional environment. 

 

Knowledge, Skills, Ability: 

  • Strong public speaking, presentation, technology, and social media skills. 

  • Familiarity with best practices related to education abroad. 

  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills; ability to build rapport with students and faculty. 

  • Creativity and familiarity with graphic design software and techniques. 

  • Crisis management skills. 

  • Knowledge of world geography, global issues, and/or languages. 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:   

  • Serve as the main point of contact for students applying for faculty-led study abroad programs and for students unsure about which type of program best fits their needs and goals. 

  • Serve as the main point of contact for families wishing to learn about study abroad programs and policies. 

  • Manage marketing and promotion of all study abroad programs, including social media activities and information session presentations. 

  • Manage a portfolio of contracts with educational travel vendors and coordinate billing and payments for faculty-led programming. 

  • Manage web-based program brochures, enrollment information, and applications for faculty-led programming using the Via TRM study abroad portal. 

  • Develop and maintain information for the HPU Global Education website. 

  • Represent the Office of Global Education at campus open houses, preview days, freshman orientations, alumni & family weekends, and scholars’ day events – flexible weekend and after-hours scheduling is required. 

  • Coordinate event planning related to global education, including the Study Abroad Fair, Study Abroad Information Sessions, International Education Week, and the International Festival. 

  • Greet guests, answer phones, and schedule staff appointments in the absence of front-desk student employee coverage. 

  • Assist students with passport and visa applications when necessary. 

  • Serve as DSO and remain informed on relevant policies to assist international F-1 students with general questions and needs. 

  • Assist Global Education team with outbound student orientations. 

  • Serve as advisor for the HPU Global Student Association. 

  • Assist with assessment activities for the Office of Global Education. 

  • Other related global education duties as needed. 

ACCOUNTABILITY: 

  • Position reports to the Assistant Vice President for Global Education 

  • Position will supervise student employees and volunteers 

  • Hybrid and remote work arrangements are not permitted
