Global Payroll SME (EMEA)
Job Description
At Thoughtworks, we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Payroll Specialist to join our Global Payroll team.
As a Global Payroll Specialist, you will be responsible for making sure employees are paid accurately and on time, managing payroll functions in agreement with local payroll
service providers, validating inputs and final employee paychecks, withholding taxes,and any other deductions, as well as maintaining accurate payroll records for internal
and external team, governments, and local compliance
Job responsibilities
Ensures accurate and timely processing of payroll updates including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates.
- Upstream, retrieval of data from multiple sources: Such as HR system, Shared Services, local business inputs, equity and mobility or an external source.
- Ensure quality identification of data gaps and human/processing errors. Validation of payroll calculation of wages, benefits, tax deductions, commissions, etc. Preparing and processing paychecks ( for mobile employees, especially when gross-ups of tax are involved)
- Downstream, funding, reporting, and query management.
- Entering data into payroll and administrative databases and software programs.
- Maintaining payout information and resolving any discrepancies; Ensuring Statutory compliance by following policies and procedures; Timely Registration on payments impacting compliance such as salary / Full and Final Payment, social security, and union contributions is forwarded to Accounts and payments made within a specified time.
- Ensure that the vendor adheres to the promised quality and timeliness as per The SLA (Service Level Agreement) and staying up to date with changes in respective payroll regulations and ensuring compliance.
- Preparing payroll funding reports for Finance team review and approval. Coordinating with other departments, such as HR and Finance, to ensure seamless payroll processing.
- Collaborating with external stakeholders, such as auditors and tax authorities, on payroll-related matters.
Payroll COE - (30%)
- Ability to handle multiple country payrolls and be proactive in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities. Continuous process improvement ● Working closely with Payroll Vendors, Financial controllers, Equity and GLOMO
Job qualifications
At least 4+ years of experience in payroll processing or a related field.
- Spain / Romania Payroll understanding is a must.
- Extensive knowledge of the payroll function including preparation, balancing, internal control, payroll taxes, and compliance with government regulations.
- Strong understanding of payroll systems, payroll statutory, earnings and deduction codes, and GL mapping.
- Knowledge of ESPP, STOCK, RSU, and Payroll Accounting is a plus.
- Proficient with Workday and Vendor provided tools/software
- Basics of audit, Documentation/record keeping skills.

- Well-developed communication skills with the ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with a range of stakeholders to achieve desired outcomes.
- Well-developed planning and organizational skills, including the ability to complete tasks within set time frames.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skill

Shift timings: Please note the shift timings are from 1.00 PM - 8.00 PM. This will be a usual 8-hour shift
