A Brief Summary of This Position:
The Global Supply Chain Analyst is responsible for conducting and documenting a variety of moderate to complex procurement statistical analysis projects. The position is also responsible for monitoring business drivers to highlight business risks and opportunities to influence business decisions. It is part of a team that provides accurate and timely spend analysis, reports, and scenario/pro-forma modeling to support purchasing and supplier agreement guidance, internal forecasts, the annual budget, and three-year strategic plan as well as other company initiatives. The Global Supply Chain Analyst supports a particular segment of our business and is a vital contributor to that segment's goals and objectives. This individual must exhibit strong business acumen, excel in a matrix environment involving a wide variety of stakeholders, and demonstrate a passion for technology and simplification. This position serves as a key enabler of the supply chain organization by serving as a liaison between the business segment and the procurement center of excellence.
Essential Functions:
- This position reports to the Global Supply Chain Material Excellence Leader with matrix responsibilities with the Vice President of Global Supply Chain and has no direct reports
- This role requires up to 10% travel domestically and internationally, including overnight stays
- Perform spend analysis by leveraging and developing financial models to provide insightful financial information that supports our internal customers' ability to make informed business decisions such as buying decisions
- Proactively identify business risks and opportunities through supplier and market analyses leveraging both financial and operational data which can be used to draw conclusions and present recommendations on decision and actions to key stakeholders
- Leverage technology to initiate and drive deep dive analysis to enable decision making, execution and/or strategic planning at the corporate, business unit or segment level
- Partner with the supply chain center of excellence to support the planning and forecasting processes inclusive of P&L, Balance Sheet & Cash Flow by providing insights on the key drivers for each area of the business
- Work with cross-functional teams to define and track key performance indicators which can assist in influencing outcomes
- Provide support for internal and external presentations and ad/hoc requests
- Drive process improvement efforts through initiatives and training others in new ways of approaching procurement work
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with Supply Chain Business Partners to maintain linkage between Supply Chain Center of Excellence and the Valmont business segments to influence decisions
- Researches, analyzes, and synthesizes data from multiple sources into business information as directed and by self-identification of business information needs.
- Build and maintain detailed and dynamic spend models that are powered by big data to inform quarterly forecasts, budgeting/planning across the P&L, investment evaluation and prioritization, and operational decision-making
- Partner with business stakeholders to understand their procurement needs, support company leadership to implement buying and operational goals, and apply market insights to improve decision-making
- Interpretation and leverage of statistical and machine learning models
- Serve as a subject matter expert to other analysts
Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):
- Preferred Bachelor's in Business Management/Administration, Supply Chain, Accounting, Finance, Economics, or related field with 3+ years relevant experience or Associates Degree with 5+ years relevant experience or 7+ years of relevant experience
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Refined spend analytics skills - ability to create detailed files and then summarize that data so it can be presented
- Ability to successfully navigate, prioritize and problem solve in ambiguous circumstances
- Desire and ability to take ownership of tasks and work autonomously while part of a matrixed team
- Technical curiosity: experience in data analytics and presentation tools; ability to remain current on analysis tools and trends to drive competitive advantage.
- Market Analysis modeling skills: demonstrated ability to create Commodity trends and evaluate risk
- Understanding of macroeconomics factors: how foreign currency and commodities (steel, zinc, etc.) impact supply chain performance and ability to incorporate this understanding into supply chain modeling
- Working knowledge of valuation and project evaluation techniques such as discounted cash flow analysis, internal rate of return, net present value, return on invested capital, and weighted average cost of capital
- Creative "out of the box" thinker who can translate strategies into concrete tactical plans
- Sound judgment and decision-making skills
- Demonstrates a team mentality with a willingness to do what is necessary for the greater good of the company
- Influence: Self-motivated with an ability to motivate other employees into action; able to collaborate and influence across all levels of an organization
- Executive Presence: demonstrated experience collaborating with and making presentations and recommendations to C-level executives
- Strong organizational skills: history of balancing competing priorities with the ability to adapt to the changing needs of the business while meeting deadlines.
- Demonstrated project management skills with the ability to manage time-sensitive projects
Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications:
- An MBA and/or advanced analytics degree
- Certified Professional Supply Manager (CPSM) or equivalent
- Experience building or leveraging machine learning models or use of artificial intelligence analysis
- Proficiency in SRM/Ariba and various ERP systems
- Advanced experience with Power BI and/or other Power Platform or analytical tools
- Experience supporting global, matrixed organization
- Experience in manufacturing, infrastructure and/or supply chain industries
Other Important Details about the Role:
This position exercises autonomy while reporting in a matrixed environment (to both the functional and business teams). The ability and desire to navigate competing priorities and execute in a fast-paced, dynamic environment is vital. The candidate must demonstrate business acumen specific to the teams they support while driving best practices in supply chain planning and analysis. Individuals are expected to learn and utilize technological tools and resources to drive continuous improvement in our planning and forecasting processes.
Working Environment and Physical Efforts:
Work is typically performed in an office setting. The incumbent is regularly required to sit for extended periods of time, as well as talk and listen on the phone and in personal conversations or meetings. Environment is fast paced and demanding most of the time. 10% travel requirements for this position. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms while working in the office with various files and forms and while working on the computer. The employee is occasionally required to move about the office. Incumbent must utilize proper ergonomic safeguards such as monitor height and positions, keyboard location and height and proper wrists rests. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds in working with large files, binders, and computer equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
