Global Sustainability Manager, Mars Science & Diagnostics
The Global Sustainability Manager, Mars Science & Diagnostics is responsible for substantive Sustainability program management, operations & governance, strategic leadership and special initiatives. As SDx aims to grow and embed Sustainability at the core of its business, this role will leverage knowledge in Sustainability management and technical areas, rely on experience managing complex topics and successfully navigating ambiguity and delivering results, and provide information and advice on this critically important topic area with division leaders and globally across Mars and externally.
An important part of the success of this role will be having the knowledge to help the different parts of the division deliver accurate, granular data on impact areas is critical to our business in a number of ways, including internal strategy development, tracking progress against our goals and KPIs and future internal and external reporting to stakeholders. The Sustainability Manager will work across our business units to support the collection, agregation, analysis and visualization of data across on our impact areas, including greenhouse gas emissions, waste from labs/research centre etc.
What are we looking for?
- BS in business, engineering, science or other field grounded in management of quantitative information. Preferred qualification: a further degree focused on sustainability or environmental management or equivalent experience
- 5 + years of experience with topics such as greenhouse gas emissions, waste from labs/research centre etc.
- Familiarity with greenhouse gas emissions data, analysis and the GHG Protocol methodology is required.
- Strong English language communication and report writing skills covering both technical and narrative information.
- Influencing skills, both with internal and external stakeholders
- Project management and effective teamwork in multi-discipline, functional and cultural environments with challenging scope and deadlines
- Self-motivated and ability to perform assigned duties independently with limited direct supervision
What will be your key responsibilities?
- This role's responsibilities are in three main areas - Performance & Governance; Climate & Packaging Transformations; Associate, Strategy, Operations & Special Initiatives.
- Performance, Operations & Governance
- Responsible for organizing, administering, and effectively managing SDx's various sustainability teams/forums across all environmental and social aspects of the Sustainable in a Generation plan and Mars Petcare Sustainability Roadmap, ensuring effective program oversight, issue escalation, and strong alignment to underpin successful program deployment. Leading effective escalation and resolution of key issues as needed.
- Support CA Corp Affairs VP in establishing SDx Sustainability Steer Co (sub-set of LT, meets quarterly).
- Additionally, engaging on a period basis with the SDx LT regarding Sustainability, and with individual LT members on a routine basis as needed to ensure effective program delivery.
- Responsible for the review and approval of Annual and Quarterly sustainability performance reports, Investment status updates, and ensuring the integration of Sustainability into all relevant governance processes and routines.
- Strategy & Special Initiatives
- Enable periodic strategic reviews of SDx's sustainability strategy, plans, goals and targets - including ensuring that KPIs, reporting and management approaches are fit-for-purpose to drive results and also integrating emerging trends, new best practice insights and innovation & technology into our work.
- Ensures programs account for Associate education and engagement and cover the relevant pillar in the Petcare Roadmap
- Responsibility for leading special initiatives as needed to advance SDx's sustainability programs in a range of areas, including breakthrough new research, organizing convenings of experts or key stakeholders, deep analysis of key components of current or future potential programs, etc.

Total rewards at Mars includes base pay, competitive benefits, and annual bonus (if position is eligible). The full-time pay range for this role is:
USD 112,445.00 - USD 168,668.00
