Summary

As a Government Information Specialist (FOIA) at the GS-0306-11, you will be part of Office of the Executive Secretariat, Privacy, and Information Management, Office of Personnel Management. If selected, you will be responsible for serving as a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and Privacy Act (PA) Specialist, with primary responsibilities for intake of all FOIA/PA requests, providing advisory services to requesters and agency staff, and processing and tracking complex FOIA/PA requests.

  • Suitable for Federal employment, determined by a background investigation
  • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period
  • Complete the initial online assessment and USAHire Assessment, if required
  • This position is eligible for inclusion in the bargaining unit. The union that represents employees in this position is the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) Local 32.

Qualifications

For the GS 11: You must have one year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the private or public sector) which includes: 1) processing Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and Privacy Act (PA) requests from intake to closure; 2) reviewing records to determine the applicability of FOIA/PA exemptions; 3) maintaining databases to develop reports or spreadsheets for use by targeted audiences; 4) communicating with the public and using time management to process responses to FOIA requests.
OR
A PhD or equivalent doctoral degree OR 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree.
OR
A combination of education and experience.
