About the Graduate Development Program

National Grid's Graduate Development Program (GDP) is an in-depth training and development program for high achieving recent college graduates who aspire to take on future leadership roles in a dynamic, ever-changing industry. Graduates are the future of National Grid. Bringing fresh thinking, new perspectives, and enthusiasm to our team, we'll give you real responsibility and an opportunity to make an impact from day one - putting the power to supercharge your career in your hands.

Graduates start their careers at National Grid with an in-depth 4-week in-person Orientation which gives you exposure to all parts of the company, allows you to network with your Graduate cohort, GDP alumni, and senior leaders, and provides you with the opportunity to travel throughout our service territory in the northeast US. Following Orientation, Graduates begin working in their hired position and take part ongoing development activities through your first year including monthly development sessions, active mentorship, and a Capstone Project at the completion of your first year with National Grid

About the Position

Primarily responsible for engineering design, implementation, integration, and troubleshooting support for electric distribution and sub-transmission facing technologies, the Electric Meter Engineering Organization is at the forefront of technology development for National Grid's U.S. business. Our team culture is self-directed and empowered. We work on a wide range of projects; taking innovative concepts/ visions and making them a reality. We are proud that the Electric Meter Engineering department is the "go-to" team for a vast array of stakeholders in developing realizable technology solutions for both today and a sustainable future tomorrow.

What You'll Do

You will:
  • Create and update metering standards, procedures, and specifications for meters and associated equipment, provide field support and product evaluations, ensuring ISO meter compliance. Support wholesale and retail meter installations
  • Represent Meter Engineering as the project team engineer responsible for design, engineering, and specification of metering equipment
  • Support Company initiatives for innovation and modernization of our energy delivery infrastructure (e.g. NY REV, etc.) and the deployment of AMI technologies
  • Engineer and support ISO compliant wholesale revenue meter points. This includes producing the annual testing and inventory report for the NYISO
  • Represent the Company on committees such as Specifications for Electrical Installations Committee (SEIC)
  • Undertake specific tasks of varying complexity to support colleagues in the design of technical solutions
  • Work independently with external National Grid customers to resolve meter and meter related issues, provide engineering review to ensure compliance on new installations, and disseminate required information to proper internal organizations for new installations
  • Develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders to foster a collaborative team environment


What You'll Need

  • Bachelor or Master's degree from an accredited institution in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Telecommunications or related area
  • Graduated between May 2022 and June 2023
  • Ability to begin the National Grid Graduate Program May 30, 2023 or June 26, 2023
  • Valid US driver's license
  • Applicants for the Graduate Development Program must have work authorization that does not now or in the future require sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in the United States (such as sponsorship for an H-1B, TN, O, L, STEM OPT, or other employment-based work authorization)


It Would Be Awesome If You Have

  • An understanding of Power Strength with courses such as Power Systems
  • An interest in Renewable Energy and Green Technologies


Salary

$72,000 - $85,000 a year

This position has a career path which provides for advancement opportunities within and across bands as you develop and evolve in the position; gaining experience, expertise and acquiring and applying technical skills. Candidates will be assessed and provided offers against the minimum qualifications of this role and their individual experience.
