This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Graduate Geologist to join the Earth & Environment Team in the Atlanta, Georgia office. In this role you will have opportunities to use your knowledge of geology, hydrogeology, geochemistry, geophysics, etc. to provide world-class consulting services to a variety of clients.

Takes part in providing local technical assistance for the collection, identification, and compiling of environmental and geological data from various media (soil, groundwater, surface water, sediment, air/vapor). Generates accurate and concise documentation, ensuring that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards.

Your Impact
  • Participate in a wide range of environmental and engineering projects, from conceptual site model development, to design and implementation of remediation and risk management strategies.
  • Support the Site Assessment and Remediation business unit by:
  • Conducting field exercises including drilling, geologic logging, well installation, sampling of various media, and hydrogeologic testing.
  • Generating complete, accurate, and concise documentation using electronic systems and field/work site notebook.
  • Supporting feasibility studies to identify appropriate remedial strategies;
  • Supporting designs for bench-scale testing, pilot study programs, and full-scale remediation strategies;
  • Review and compile data, assist with techincal document preparation, and assist with other related duties to support a project team.

In addition, the successful candidate will be responsible for:
  • Support the preparation of design drawings, technical reports, regulatory permit documents, tender documents, and technical specifications.
  • Undertaking project-based travel and site work, both within the USA and internationally. The frequency and duration of this will depend on business and client needs.
  • Displaying a 'safety first' attitude, promoting positive health and safety, raising safety issues through the appropriate channels, and adhering to Company health and safety policy and procedures
  • Assist in the preparation and implementation of site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs)
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelors Degree in Geology.
  • Ability to operate, trouble shoot, and maintain field testing and monitoring equipment.
  • Ability to lift and transport a minimum of 50 pounds on a regular basis during the course of work.
  • Safely operate a vehicle on behalf of the company.
  • Pass DOT certification training to operate a field truck pulling an equipment trailer.
  • Willingness to travel for field work as dictated by project demands which could be as much as 75% of the time and to periodically adjust personal schedules to meet project needs.
  • Detail-oriented, team player with good communication, analytical, organization, and time management skills.
  • Performance of work in inclement weather conditions following OSHA requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • A Master's degree in Geology.
  • Experience performing soil and rock logging.
  • Experience performing soil, sediment, soil gas, and/or groundwater sampling.
  • Familiarity with various drilling techniques and experience with installation of groundwater monitoring and/or remediation wells.
  • Strong techincal writing and verbal communication skills, along with a willingness to work as part of a group.
  • Exhibit strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite; experience with other data analysis and database tools, such as AutoCAD, ArcGIS, and EQUiS, is a plus.
  • 40-Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR 1910.120).
