Graduate Scientist/Engineer/Geologist

GHD is seeking a recent Graduate Engineer/Geologist/Scientist to work with our Contaminant, Assessment, and Remediation/Environmental Health & Safety teams on providing environmental consulting services to various public and private sector clients across the Western U.S. This position will be based out of our Phoenix, AZ Office

Contaminant, Assessment and Remediation responsibilities of this position will include but are not limited to:

• Field implementation of work plans
• Health and Safety Plan preparation
• Drilling bid preparation and subcontractor procurement
• Field work planning and coordination
• Oversight of subcontractors during utility locates, borehole clearance, subsurface exploratory drilling, excavating, groundwater monitoring, waste removal, etc.
• Collecting soil, groundwater, vapor, and surface water samples
• Operation and maintenance of air monitoring and remediation systems
• Soil logging using the Unified Soil Classification System
• Permanent and temporary monitoring well construction
• Problem resolution due to unexpected field conditions
• Support clients during emergency response projects
• Prepare budgets and schedules
• Report writing to document field activities and investigation findings

Environmental Health & Safety responsibilities for this position will include but are not limited to:

• Support a variety of air and water quality compliance management projects for multiple industries, including mining, chemical/petrochemical, refining, electric utility, petroleum refining, and manufacturing

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Chemical or Environmental Engineering, Geology, or Environmental Science or equivalent from an accredited university
• Graduate/Entry level, no experience required
• Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle
• Basic understanding of federal and state regulatory program requirements for site clean-ups.
• Basic understanding of federal and state environmental regulations
• Ability to perform field work and travel, travel can vary from short day trips to long-term multi-week assignments
• Familiarity with air dispersion models, or dispersion modeling experience a plus
• OSHA 40 HAZWOPER trained a plus
