WestCoast Children’s Clinic, located in Oakland, California, is a non-profit community psychology clinic that provides mental health services to Bay Area children, youth and families. The Senior Accountant/Grants Accountant demonstrates flawless attention to detail and ability to consistently generate a high-quality work product within the Finance Department. Reporting to the Accounting Manager and CFO, the Senior Accountant/Grants Accountant’s responsibilities will include reporting and accounting for grants and Federal and State reimbursable contracts, monthly balance sheet reconciliations and collaboration on special projects.  The preferred candidate possesses experience with Federal, State and local funding and working closely with the CFO will provide the information requirements related to grants. The Senior Accountant must also have a level of comfort in providing technical and analytical support for the preparation of the organization’s annual operating budget including providing technical training to Programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare revenue projections and forecast of expenditures for reimbursable grants and contracts.
  • Assist with preparing and monitoring grant budgets and financial statements.
  • Prepare financial analyses on grant reports and general ledger account reconciliations.
  • Reconcile and perform grant closeout functions required by contracts administration and sponsors.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge on the organization's funding sources, grants and contracts, ensure implementation of best practices.
  • Assist and participate in all pre- and post-award grant processes.
  • Review transactions for compliance with applicable grant and contract terms internal policies and procedures.
  • Perform monthly account reconciliations.
  • Responsible for review and coding of monthly credit card charges.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements, variance reports, agency's annual budget and forecasting processes.
  • Assist department managers with their budgets and maintenance of budget versus actuals.
  • Provide explanations and recommendations for variances from budget and discuss with program personnel to ensure their knowledge and understanding.
  • Become familiar with grant and contracts reporting and compliance regulations and requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Competencies:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
  • 2+ years of accounting experience, preferably working with non-profits or healthcare clinics
  • Thorough knowledge of all aspects of the accounting cycle and accounting rules (GAAP/FASB).
  • Strong understanding of general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing and payroll systems.
  • Demonstrates strong analytical skills with experience in financial and variance analysis.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong organizational and stress management skills
  • Ability to train and supervise staff
  • Experience with computerized accounting ledger systems, preferably Abila MIP.
  • Experience with ADP payroll systems.
  • Experience with G-Suite Applications.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office products, especially Excel worksheets, including advanced applications.
  • Ability to prioritize and work accurately with close attention to detail, strong time management skills and an ability to work within defined deadlines.
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively as part of a diverse multidisciplinary team.

Position Details and Compensation:

This is a full-time, exempt position reporting to the CFO and Accounting Manager. Salary starting at $85,000 per year depending on experience, and includes benefits, 403b, and performance-based compensation plans.
