PSE Healthy Energy is a non-profit energy science and policy research institute dedicated to a healthy, resilient, and equitable energy future.

Our team of public health professionals, scientists, and engineers integrate technical expertise across multiple fields to inform science-based energy policy. Our mission is to generate science-based energy and climate solutions that protect public health and the environment.

POSITION

At PSE, the Development Department is a dynamic hub of strategic relationship building, fundraising, and resource mobilization. Here, fundraising is a collaborative effort, involving staff across various departments and levels in proposal development, relationship building, and network expansion. In this fast-paced environment, our team leads in strategizing and directing fundraising efforts, designing user-friendly systems, and guiding the entire organization toward cohesive resource goals. We leverage Salesforce CRM to manage relationships effectively, track fundraising progress, and utilize data for strategic decision-making. A significant focus of our department is the careful management of grants and proposals. We oversee the entire grant lifecycle and lead the proposal production processes, establishing systems that ensure successful outcomes. As our organization grows, we seek the skills of a Grants and Proposals Manager to join us in this vibrant setting. You will be integral to these processes, requiring adaptability, strategic thinking, and a collaborative spirit to thrive in our multifaceted department.

ROLES and RESPONSIBILITIES

Record Keeping & Development Systems:

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all grant applications, awards, and related correspondence
  • Use Salesforce CRM to track proposals, reports, and funding cycles
  • Establish and maintain a library of common application components, such as letters of support from partners, project/subject matter narratives and other administrative documents 
  • Use data and outcomes from programs to inform future grant applications and reports
  • Manage funder portals

Grant research and Identification of Opportunities:

  • Researching and identify potential grant opportunities from government agencies, foundations, and other funding sources
  • Keeping abreast of trends and changes in grant availability and requirements
  • Attend webinars, events, and information sessions
  • Analyze opportunities and make recommendations for quarterly development planning
  • Coordinate go/no-go decisions and support staff in using decision-making tools

Proposal Production:

  • Analyze solicitations and draft opportunity deconstructs
  • Assist with drafting, adapting, and proofreading grant proposals and reports, as assigned
  • Coordinate/support proposal teams in preparing new proposals with development
  • Collaborate closely with technical leads on proposal production
  • Work closely with staff to gather necessary information and data for grant applications
  • Implement budget strategy by drafting proposal budgets for institutional and government funding opportunities
  • Coordinating with finance, program, and management teams to ensure proposals meet both programmatic and financial requirements
  • Manage the submission process for all grant applications, ensuring they meet deadlines and compliance standards
  • Follow up with funding agencies post-submission for any additional information and to understand the status of the application

Reporting:

  • Maintain a reporting calendar and coordinate reporting across the organization
  • In collaboration with Program and Finance teams, coordinate the preparation of grant reports 
  • Facilitate key steps of grant development and reporting
  • In collaboration with the project managers and program teams, coordinate the analysis of grant data to track progress 

Handover:

  • Upon award of a new grant, assemble appropriate internal team members to ensure everyone understands responsibilities, reporting requirements, deliverables, etc.
  • If award is not received evaluate and document areas for improvement

Other:

  • Contribute to development team workshops, brainstorms and strategic sessions
  • Manage charity websites
  • Work with Director of Development Director to prep for and follow-up on funder meetings

QUALIFICATIONS

Demonstrated Technical Qualifications

  • 3-5 years experience as a grants & proposal manager or similar role laid out in job description
  • Expertise in drafting various types of budgets, including government budgets
  • At least 3 years of proposal production experience
  • Demonstrated success in remote work environment 
  • Experience in submitting government and institutional proposals 
  • Salesforce CRM experience or similar CRM use
  • Sound understanding of compliance across various funder types
  • Tech Savvy: Well versed in Google Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, Canva, Presentation Boards (Miro, Jamboard, etc.), Wiki tools such as Notion, Confluence, Slack, Asana and other collaboration tools.

LOCATION

Oakland, CA. Remote locations will also be considered.

SALARY

The anticipated salary range is $70,000-$83,500+, though the successful candidate could be hired above or below this range depending on qualifications and geographic location. Benefits are competitive and include health and dental insurance, 401(k) retirement plan with employer match, 15 days of vacation, paid sick leave and 11+ paid holidays.
