Job Summary:

The Gateway Systems Technical Support Engineer will provide advanced technical support for Globalstar Gateway Systems. The role will also require engineering support for various projects and our Subject Matter Expert program.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical support and assistance to gateway personnel in fault diagnosis, troubleshooting and repair of Globalstar Gateway systems. This includes 1st generation antennas and duplex baseband equipment, first generation simplex equipment, and various 2nd generation systems and subsystems. This will include a rotating on-call schedule.
  • Create and update gateway documentation including Solutions Database documents, technical bulletins, and recommended Operations and Maintenance procedures.
  • Plan and document configuration changes such as adding radio, trunk, Internet, or PSTN capacity to a gateway.
  • Actively participate in installation, commissioning, and testing of peripheral systems.
  • Participate in development and delivery of next generation gateway technical training programs to Globalstar employees at all levels.
  • Work closely with the SLA team and Gateway Operations in identifying and resolving technical issues which negatively affect the customer experience.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally for short- and medium-term assignments required. Valid passport required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Procedural writing skills and experience an asset
  • Language skills in addition to English are a plus.
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent activities.
  • Ability to interact with senior staff and with technical/engineering personnel.

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum three (3) to five (5) years of applicable satellite communications industry or military experience working with RF, IF, baseband, and networking technologies.
  • Additional industry training and/or certifications are a plus.
  • Must have demonstrated strong knowledge of Networking Concepts, Security practices, Gateway (Base Station), and Satellite systems.
  • Must have a strong and proven ability to analyze, summarize and solve issues.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds at times

This is a salaried position which will require occasional after hours, weekend, and holiday work. This work will not be separately compensated.
