We are looking for an experienced Group Head of Investor Relations who will cultivate strong relationships with Starling’s investor base, supporting their understanding of the firm’s financial performance and business plan on an ongoing basis. You will be vital in building conviction among the wider investor and analyst community in Starling’s vision and strategy for growth as the group approaches an initial public offering.
This role offers a unique opportunity to work closely with Starling’s executives and leadership team, gaining valuable insight into the inner workings of one of the UK’s top fintechs. Reporting to the Chief of Staff to the Group CFO and working closely with the Group CFO, you will collaborate across multiple functions within the group including the Group CFO’s Office, Strategy, Corporate Affairs, FP&A and Financial Modelling, Treasury and Legal teams.
As Group Head of Investor Relations, you will be responsible for executing an investor relations strategy that prioritises clear and effective communication of the Starling Group’s performance and equity story across both Starling Bank and Engine by Starling, developing investor confidence and belief in the company’s vision and its strategy for delivering shareholder value.Â
In particular, you will:
- Support the Group CFO to cultivate strong relationships with existing and prospective investors and sell-side analysts
- Provide investors and analysts with relevant and accurate information to support their technical understanding of the Starling Group’s business model and financial performance
- Conduct analysis to assess shareholder impact of corporate actionsÂ
- Support the Strategy team with preparation of compelling equity story materials including teasers and information memorandums to support private fundraisesÂ
- Coordinate investor meetings and events and prepare supporting materialsÂ
- Support the Group CEO and Group CFO in communicating Starling’s equity story to the investor community and deputise for the Starling Group at investor conferences and events
- Play a key role in primary issuance and secondary transactions
- Support the business in its steps towards its consideration of IPO readiness
- Ensure consistency in external messaging surrounding Starling’s long-term growth strategy, business model and financial performance to the public investment community, working closely with the Corporate Affairs team to manage the public perception of the the group
- Play a role alongside senior management, appointed advisors and underwriters to execute a successful IPO or other capital event
- Work closely with the Corporate Affairs team to develop narratives and support the Group with public facing communications and disclosures, for example earnings calls and the annual report
- Support on meeting environmental reporting requirements and the group’s wider ESG strategy
- Preparing briefing materials for the Group CEO and Group CFO ahead of earnings calls and meeting with investors
- Develop and maintain the Group’s investor information webpageÂ
- Monitor analyst coverage and key valuation assumptions and outputs
- Provide the Group CFO with your insight on developments and trends in the capital markets
- Document and maintain frameworks and policies relating to IR
- Bachelor’s degree with a 2:1 or above, or equivalent
- Chartered Accountancy qualification (ACA/CA etc.) or CFA
- 8+ years relevant experience, which must include some experience performing an equivalent role within a listed institution. This experience might have been undertaken outside of the UK or US, but we would require the successful candidate to have deep financial services technical knowledge and ideally, experienced in software, enterprise sales or a SaaS business
- Ideally, direct public markets experience including leading or advising businesses through IPO
- Track record of maintaining strong relationships with the equity research analyst and investor community
- Clear and engaging communication and interpersonal skills with proven confidence presenting in a public forum
- Strong written and visual presentation skills, producing pitch/presentation materials of a high professional standardÂ
- Desire to work in an open, flat, collaborative and fast paced environment
- Strong financial acumen and accounting knowledge with a robust understanding of bank financials and key metrics
- Corporate finance skills with ability to interpret complex financial models and valuation analysisÂ
- Particular understanding of UK bank and tech valuation methodologies used by analysts and industry valuation metrics and trends
- Strong banking/fintech industry knowledge and a deep understanding of the capital markets
- Comprehension of the FCA listing rules and disclosure requirements
