MITRE's Missile Defense Agency (MDA) Program Division seeks a technical leader with a passion for leading and managing staff to join the N261 MDA Weapons Systems Engineering Department leadership team as a Group Leader for our staff in Huntsville, AL. N261 provides technical support to the MDA portfolio across the Missile Defense Systems Engineering, Analysis and Weapon Systems domains. N261 Group Leaders (1st line Direct Supervisors) focus on retaining, recruiting, and growing talented staff; ensuring quality delivery in support of MDA priority mission outcomes; and accomplishing Division and Department initiatives.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Recruit, develop, and retain top missile defense professionals.
  • Provide day-to-day leadership, management, and advocacy for staff.
  • Implement CLEAR Conversations concepts.
  • Represent staff to leadership in the areas of staff performance and professional development needs.
  • Work in shared leadership with Project Leaders to match staff member talents to project needs.
  • Work closely with leadership to develop, implement, and execute the Division, MDA Portfolio, and Department's mission, vision, strategy, goals, and objectives.
  • Work with leadership and technical staff to ensure a culture of excellence, teamwork, staff development, continuous learning, and innovation.
  • Contribute technically to one or more MITRE projects.
  • Support staff in understanding the mission, strategy, goals, and related organizational concepts.
  • Facilitate professional development through leadership, coaching, mentoring, and communication.
  • Provide timely recognition of exceptional behavior and performance resulting in significant impact.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a Bachelor's Engineering degree and 8 years of related experience; or 6 years and a Master's degree; or a PhD with 3 years' experience; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.
  • Active SECRET or above DoD Clearance.
  • Working understanding of MDA Programs and experience in developing and evolving enterprise technical capabilities and defense programs through the practical application of systems architecting and/or systems engineering best practices.
  • Strong desire to invest in others' success.
  • Robust leadership, collaboration, and interpersonal skill set.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum of two years' experience in personnel supervision or in orchestrating large teams/groups in task completion.
  • Experience leading or managing geographically dispersed groups.
  • Experience working with distributed teams across a variety of technical and work areas.
  • Technical expertise in a relevant domain.
  • Known as a team player.
  • Recognized as a thought leader and one who dynamically executes leadership and consensus decisions.
