We create novel hardware, software, and analysis tools for producers to understand the factors that produce more nutritious food and for buyers to know the nutritional quality of the food they buy. We are looking for teammates who are passionate about food, the food system, and human or environmental health!

We are looking for a Hands-On Engineering Manager to join our growing software team. You will work alongside leadership to design and build scalable, high-performance software. As a key team member, you will help build the company and culture from the ground up and help bring our product to market. This is a 50% hands-on-keyboard position.

You Will:

• Work with modern, well tested software with limited technical debt
• Offer guidance and mentorship to engineers, help them grow their skills, and support their career development
• Assess team and individual performance, providing constructive feedback, and setting goals
• Hire and onboard new team members, manage team dynamics, and foster a productive and positive work environment
• Collaborate with internal teams to define, design, and ship new features
• Plan and track project timelines, manage priorities, and ensure deadlines are met without compromising on quality
• Improve the development process through the use of best practices and new technologies
• Develop high-performance, scalable systems using TypeScript, Python, Postgres, Terraform, Kubernetes, and AWS
• Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code
• Participate in code reviews

You Have:

• 7+ years of experience in software development
• Team lead, engineering management, or other leadership experience
• Experience with TypeScript, Node.js and/or Python, Kubernetes, and AWS
• Experience building scalable, high-performance systems
• Experience with system design principles and best practices
• A passion for testing
• Bachelor's degree
• Must be U.S. based

Nice to Have:

• Experience with Next.js or Remix, Django, Postgres, Terraform, ArgoCD, and Snowflake
• Experience building data pipelines
• Experience with relational and non-relational database design
• Startup experience

The Benefits:

• Salary: $170,000-$220,000 depending on qualifications, experience, and equity
• Equity: 0.2% - 0.5%, depending on qualifications, experience, and salary
