As a member of a small, early stage team, you will have the opportunity to work on every stage of product development, from concept to design with implementation to validation. You will help build out best practices and procedures to ensure fast development velocity and robust test coverage. This role requires a self-starter who enjoys working in an interdisciplinary environment to solve challenging integration problems involving thermal and mechanical systems to deliver on next generation products in the space of consumer food waste recycling.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Product Management, Mechanical Product Design Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering and Supply Chain teams to architect devices such as food grinding/dehydration systems, and bring conceptual solutions into robust, scalable, high-performing products.
  • Own System-level integration of electromechanical subsystems such as motor and heater systems, collaborating with Mechanical Product Design Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Firmware Engineering teams
  • Simulate system performance and validate by testing real hardware throughout development cycle from rapid prototyping through production
  • Risk assessment of new and existing systems using FMEA techniques, devising mitigation strategies, and development of solutions to improve system performance, reliability, and cost.
  • Provide hands-on technical leadership to navigate complex problem-solving efforts for product in development and in production
  • Develop and manage system and subsystem requirements, test documentation outlining device design, capabilities, and operating procedures, translating business needs into rigorous hardware design specifications.

Skills and Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, aerospace or a related engineering field
  • 8+ years of experience in the design of complex systems or subsystems including dynamic motor and/or thermal control systems
  • Experience shipping consumer products from concept through production
  • Experience designing resilient systems for harsh environments, safety critical structural and thermal systems, fault tolerant electromechanical systems.
  • FEA skills including structural analysis and Computational Fluid Dynamics  (CFD) modeling for airflow and thermal systems.
  • Demonstrated familiarity  with Computer-Aided Design (CAD).  NX experience preferred
  • Material selection of high performance plastics and metals
  • Hands-on experience making and testing prototypes
  • Demonstrated experience creating simple solutions to complex problems
  • Excellent communication skills in written, verbal, and visual forms, with the ability to present complex technical concepts clearly.
  • Growth mindset and passion for learning

The estimated base salary range for this position is $138k to $200k, which does not include the value of benefits or a potential equity grant. A wide range of factors are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to skill sets, market conditions, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and business and organizational needs.
