Head of CCEM Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) - Executive Director
Job Description
Athena is J.P. Morgan's cross-market risk management and trading system that provides functionality for traders, salespeople and operations staff globally. It is used in our currencies, commodities and emerging markets (CCEM) businesses. Athena includes a globally replicated object-oriented database, a powerful dependency graph and a fully integrated stack across pricing, risk and trading tools. The code is a combination of Python and C++: C++ for speed, and Python for flexibility and rapid but controlled releases. Athena is designed to provide a continuous deployment environment, and pull developers close to the business to help increase revenues, while improving operational processes and controls to reduce costs.
Role Summary:
We are looking for a senior SRE leader who has leadership experiences in software development, system architecture and SRE practices. S/he will set the strategy for the SRE practice in the responsible business technology domain, define the OKR's for the SRE team and be accountable for its performance outcome. Qualified candidate must demonstrate strong communication skills to collaborate with and influence many stakeholders across organization and deep technical background across technology stacks, including applications, data and messaging frameworks and infrastructure components. This individual should also demonstrate exceptional leadership skills in leading a technical team, recruiting team members, and growing the organization. This position is located in New York.
Responsibilities:
- Set a vision for the SRE group in the specified business technology domain
- Define the OKRs for the SRE team
- Be accountable for the SRE operation performance
- Evangelize the SRE practice across organizational boundaries
- Drive modern software development processes
- Recommend relevant and implementable technologies that not only represent the state-of-art SRE practices/trends but also benefit the overall CIB Market Techs' application modernization journey
- Architect necessary new platforms/libraries/tool-chains/APIs to enable broad scope SRE adoption
- Drive the broader developer community to adopt the SRE best practices
- Recruit, grow and manage a team of SRE engineers
Qualifications:
- Master's degree or equivalent in computer science or information technology fields
- Conversant in state-of-art observability trends, tools, products and technologies
- Ability to translate an abstract customer problem into an implementable and system requirement
- Ability to design a complex system in a cross-geo cloud environment
- Ability to identify organization wide gaps in the SRE practice and identify implementable solutions that contributes to the transformation of the organization
- Ability to drive cross org adoption of a new technology or initiative
- Ability to build and lead a high performance SRE team to consistently achieve the business results
- Ability to drive the development team to strictly adhere to the error-budget contract.
- Ability to drive the development team to incorporate SLA, SLI and SLO metrics into their development process.
- Ability to influence senior management in picking the right strategy, process, and structure to transform our organization to be a modern software engineering team
- Ability to apply SRE principles to a hybrid cloud environment (internal compute and externally, AWS)
- Proficient in software development (Python or equivalent preferred) and how to apply software engineering practices to operational challenges.
- Ability to drive capacity management, data/infrastructure growth conversations to anticipate future capacity needs
