Motional is seeking a highly organized and motivated self-starter to join the Legal Department and lead our Compliance function. You will be part of a collaborative, innovative team, working on projects that will change the future of mobility. We are a collegial and hardworking team. A successful Head of Compliance is a problem solver and comfortable with ambiguity while working on multiple high-priority projects at once. This position requires an understanding of Motional’s organizational goals and business objectives, and an appreciation for how compliance can support the success of those initiatives. Additionally, this role requires simultaneously managing risks related to Motional’s complex compliance requirements. As a member of the Legal team, you will have frequent interactions with Motional’s Engineering and Commercial teams and will need to present complex information in a concise and digestible manner.
The Motional global headquarters are located at 100 Northern Avenue in Boston, MA. Nestled in the bustling Seaport district with sweeping views of Boston Harbor and downtown Boston, the offices are located close to major transit lines and a quick walk to various restaurants and popular attractions.
What you'll be doing:
(1) The role’s responsibilities:
- Assist in finalizing the design and implementation of a company-wide compliance program
- Lead and/or support periodic risk assessments Examples of risk categories to assess include regulatory requirements, contractual requirements, relevant industry standards, QMS certification, supplier procurement risks, and employee compliance with the code of conduct
- Develop and implement company-wide compliance training programs
- Audit Motional’s procedures and policies regularly to identify opportunities for improvement
- Create and manage effective action plans in response to audit discoveries
- Evaluate and advise on relevant laws, regulations, and guidelines
- Communicate compliance metrics, reports, and analysis clearly and concisely to relevant stakeholders
 (2) Outcomes that should be accomplished within the first 12 months
- Your expertise will help Motional mature its Compliance function
- You will develop an understanding of Motional’s business processes and systems and build associated technical understanding of compliance and legal consumer protections risks related to the automotive industry
- You will establish and maintain excellent communication and positive relationships with stakeholders to ensure successful outcomes concerning compliance obligations, risk management, and strategic business objectives
What we're looking for:
- Minimum of 6 years of business or legal experience, preferably in a highly regulated industry
- Minimum of 2 years of technology or automotive industry experience
- Regulatory compliance experience
- Experience with quality management systems or compliance auditing in the technology or adjacent industries
- Knowledge of ISO, UNECE, and IETF standards
- Experience with process improvement
- Flexibility and ability to respond quickly and positively to shifting demands while working with a diverse range of stakeholders
- Experience exercising discretion and confidentiality with sensitive company information
Bonus points: (not required)
- Experience with compliance for an autonomous vehicle developer or automotive manufacturer (OEM or Tier One)
- Bachelor's degree in engineering
- Six Sigma and/or LEAN certifications
- Experience working with regulatory agencies
- Experience interacting with and working directly with senior leadership
- Project management experience

The salary range for this role is an estimate based on a wide range of compensation factors including but not limited to specific skills, experience and expertise, role location, certifications, licenses, and business needs.
