About the Role

Howl is looking to bring on a head of Data to transform how we use data to drive decision making and enhance our overall user experience.  As the head of Data science, you’ll define and scale these core principles while driving key insights and decisions internally. Story-telling comes naturally to you and you’ve learned that key initiatives require a strong narrative.

What You’ll do - 

• Surface the right data and insights that drive key business decisions and customer growth.  You’ll do this by developing the right frameworks and user data classification that guide: 
• Investments we make 
• The products we build
• How we grow 
• Build and nurture data culture at Howl
• Build a team that owns data science, data engineering and data analytics/insights 
• Show others the importance of data driven decision making 
• Role-model data driven storytelling as a new practice at Howl; we are half way there but need a true expert to raise our bar
• Make data accessible to all
• Apply and experiment with your own state-of-the-art innovations that uplevel Howl’s status-quo approaches to technical and user problem statements 
• Present work internally at monthly meetings to technical, engineering and product stakeholders to iterate and generate excitement on roadmap progress
• Co-drive EPICS and their strategies with Product and Engineering owners

The experience and expertise that you bring: 

• You’ve been at growth stage companies and have supported user growth strategies in a dynamic way
• You are a natural storyteller, and use data to stimulate the narratives 
• Comfort to collaborate with software engineers to understand complex systems
• Proven ability to communicate clearly and effectively to audiences of varying technical levels
• Proven mix of strong intellectual curiosity with high level of pragmatism and engagement with the technical community
• Ability to take a product-oriented mindset in using conceptual and innovative thinking to develop and apply solutions taking into consideration the user experience

The base salary range for this role is $200,000/yr - $225,000/yr USD.

At Howl, we offer a competitive compensation package inclusive of base salary, incentive pay and stock options. Incentive awards are allocated based on individual performance. Certain roles also have the opportunity to earn sales incentives based on revenue, depending on the terms of the plan and the employee’s role.
