About the role:

Alcon is looking to hire a Head of Design for our Digital Health team to build and lead the design teams across all Digital Health products to create human-centered experiences that consistently meet user needs and business goals.

Our Digital Health team is harnessing technology to build a leading portfolio of digital health solutions that will transform the eye care experience for medical professionals to patients and enable improved patient outcomes - from a predictive health care delivery platform harnessing ML and analytics to innovative medical device software.

As the Head of Design, you'll be leading the charge in our growing design practice and driving the creation of compelling digital health experiences across our suite of solutions. You'll be the visionary force behind our designs, and responsible for elevating the craft of design within our organization. Alongside a team of expert designers, you'll drive the adoption of best practices and push the boundaries of what's possible in healthcare. And as part of a new and fast-growing team, you'll have the opportunity to shape our culture and ways of working, like a startup, but within a global leader in eye care.

Key Responsibilities:

• Builds and leads the design practice across all products to create strategic, human-centered experiences that consistently meet user needs and business goals
• Establish design process frameworks to guide the team to conduct effective user research, create high-quality design solutions and end-to-end experiences
• Lead and oversee design efforts across all project teams, ensuring the distinctive user experiences that drive business value
• Foster strong collaboration between design teams and Product, Change, Regulatory, and Technology leaders to ensure the successful development, release, and launch of world-class products
• Create an environment and pathways for design team members to continuously learn and grow from individual contributors to group leaders
• Advocate for design best practices and the value of a strategic, user-centric approach within senior leadership
• Promote user-centricity and design thinking across the organization
• Support design, development and launch of products and facilitate requirement workshops with product teams and users - together with a team of product designers

Preferred Experiences:

For this role, we are looking for someone that is

• Experienced:
  • 10+ years of relevant leadership and design experience
  • Track record of helping digital organizations build design capabilities, create design process frameworks and build design teams in a customized approach
  • Track record for developing industry-wide known products / solutions that effectively balance user and business needs
• Technical:
  • Effectively communicates the value of design decisions to senior executives and the board through a lens of business impact
  • Exceptional experience collaborating between design, technology, and business
  • Distinctive followership and mentorship to foster development of designers and the design team
  • Deep knowledge of human-centered qualitative and quantitative user research methodologies, testing approaches and their application
  • Guides design team to creates unique, intuitive artifacts (e.g., wireframes, task flows, screen mock-ups, prototypes) and understands component-based design solutions that can be scaled
  • Mastery of industry-standard design tools (e.g., Adobe Suite, Sketch, InVision)
  • Possesses User Experience Certifications (UX Master Certification, HFI Certified Usability or User Experience Analyst, etc)
  • Understands HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and front-end development frameworks
• Collaborative: An open and respectful leader, that can inspire and mentor design practitioners, collaborates effortlessly with executives in product, marketing, and technology to guarantee successful development, release, and launch; able to respect other points of view and put the good of the organization ahead of personal interests
• Creative: Willing to challenge the status quo; able to understand when and how to take appropriate risks to drive performance. Excited about piloting new solutions to continuously improve product design
• A good communicator: Strong communication skills with ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization and aligning leaders on complex technical decisions
• Healthcare interested/experienced: Knowledge and experience in a healthcare field, specifically in regards to to HIPAA compliance and implications on research methods and communication
