Head of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
Job Description
At Flatiron Health, we recognize that as a global company, we cannot remove ourselves from the health inequities we see around the world, particularly in cancer care and research. Achieving our mission to improve and extend lives by learning from the experiences of every person with cancer, depends on our ability to attract, inspire and retain a diverse set of employees while cultivating an inclusive and equitable environment.
We're looking for a Head of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) to help us accomplish our mission to improve lives by learning from the experience of every cancer patient. Are you ready to be the next change maker in cancer care?
What You'll Do
Reporting to the Chief People Officer, this role will be responsible for building upon our current Diversity, Equity and Inclusion strategy, with a focus on four key areas: building and sustaining a more diverse workforce; cultivating an inclusive and equitable environment; increasing accountability and awareness; and engaging with community and research partners to improve health equity.
This position will also be responsible for driving results through partnership and collaboration across the company, including with senior leaders, People Team members and other functional and business teams. Some key responsibilities will include:
Building and sustaining a more diverse workforce
- Keep a pulse on Flatiron business needs and partner with People Team COEs, HRBPs and business leaders to design company wide processes as well as function-specific DEI action plans for attracting, inspiring and developing talent based on quantitative & qualitative data
- Assist in designing and launching programs focused on underrepresented groups that support the development and retention of diverse talent and leadership pipelines
Cultivating an inclusive and equitable environment
- Oversee our Employee Resource Group (ERG) program, serving as the liaison between these groups and leadership, and partnering with ERG leads to inform how the broader Flatiron employee experience can incorporate their feedback
- Collaborate with Legal & Employee Relations in matters related to DEI, including change management, investigations, and employment actions
Increasing accountability and awareness
- Collaborate with People Team leaders to curate and leverage data across the employee journey to track and evaluate our efforts and develop recommendations to address future needs
- Partner with Internal and External Communications teams to provide timely updates to key audiences (e.g., company-wide, leadership, managers, prospective candidates, other external audiences) on progress and opportunities
Engaging with community and research partners to improve health equity
- Partner with the Head of Health Equity Research to advance integration of a health equity prioritization lens across Flatiron through targeted internal and external engagements
Who You Are
You're a collaborative problem-solver who values the opportunity to think beyond the way things are. In addition, you're a results-oriented leader, with the ability to set clear goals to motivate employees, managers and key stakeholders, develop actionable plans, and manage work to achieve desired outcomes. You value receiving and providing candid feedback in order to provide measurable impact. You're excited by the prospect of tackling meaningful problems each and every day.
- You have 8-10 years of substantive work experience in one or more Human Resources functions
- You have at least 2 years of hands-on experience working on diversity, equity & inclusion initiatives with a track record of results (e.g. managed and responsible for DEI efforts in previous roles, served in a leadership role on a DEI working group/ERG)
- You possess impressive expertise that instills confidence and demonstrates an understanding of key issues in the diversity, equity and inclusion space, as well as a desire to drive meaningful change in a pragmatic and action-oriented manner
- You have excellent written and verbal communication, presentation and relationship-building skills across all levels of stakeholders in a highly cross-functional and collaborative environment, including demonstrating an ability to influence without authority
- You are driven by a sense of accountability, including assuming ownership for achieving personal results and collective team goals
- You have experience and proven ability to "roll up your sleeves" and prioritize as needed while handling multiple time-sensitive projects in a fast-paced environment
- You have proven data analysis skills and the ability to synthesize and visualize key findings from large amounts of information to then leverage data driven decision making
- You are a systems thinker with demonstrated experience leading significant change processes effectively and efficiently both in the short-term and long-term for an outcome over time
- You are comfortable to fail and experiment, conduct retrospectives and harness learnings to shape actions
Extra Credit
- You have people management experience
