Meet Your Future NeighborsÂAt Nextdoor, the Neighbor Engagement Engineering organization is responsible for building our core product experiences, including the home screen (news feed), content creation, discovery experiences, and messaging. Our goal is to ensure that millions of neighbors and organizations using our platform have a delightful experience while staying connected with their local communities on the topics that matter most to them. We innovate to help neighbors and organizations create relevant content and personalize each of their experiences.Â
We are looking for an experienced engineering leader who believes in the importance of strong local communities and enabling neighbors, local businesses, and public agencies to connect to all the neighborhoods that matter to them. This leader will be responsible for driving the development of our most strategic product experiences and a key driver of our business.
The Impact You'll MakeThe Neighbor Engagement Engineering organization is responsible for designing, building, and scaling all core engagement experiences. You will lead a growing group of engineers and managers and set the strategic technical direction that supports our product strategy. This includes the News Feed, all Content Creation, Discovery experiences, Maps, and Messaging. In this role, this leader will partner and collaborate with product managers, designers, engineers, and business teams across Nextdoor. Â
You'll recruit and manage engineers and engineering leaders, drive the Engagement experiences vision, strategize together with your Product and Business peers, and help develop Nextdoor's engineering organization as a whole. You will design the organizational structure and drive execution, helping to deliver the company’s product and engineering strategy. Reporting to the Head of Engineering, you will drive projects to deliver value to our neighbors and local businesses.
- Develop a diverse, inclusive, highly-talented, multidisciplinary team through recruiting and mentorship
- Partner with engineers to design and build scalable and innovative Engagement Products and Platforms
- Promote a growth mindset for all team members, where feedback and candid communication are encouraged
- Experience leading fast-moving agile teams in an environment of continuous release to production and weekly app releases
- Partner and collaborate with cross-functional product, engineering, and marketing teams across the company
- Actively define and deploy the engagement strategic vision that will impact all of Nextdoor, our engineers, and the neighborhoods we serve
- Drive technical execution excellence for all Engagement products and services
- Own and manage the operational relationship with strategic technical partners like API aggregators and other 3rd party vendors underpinning the Engagement products
- 9+ years of industry experience building large-scale Consumer products and infrastructure, serving multiple tens of millions of users
- Be the domain expert who is tuned in to industry trends and applies best practices
- Demonstrated ability to design and lead high-performance organizations that are agile in adapting to product and business needs
- Experience designing and scaling multi-level organizations, and helping people learn and grow
- Successful track record of building engineering products and platforms at scale
- Deep technical understanding of high scale social platforms and their componentsÂ
- Comprehensive technical cloud infrastructure experience. Like AWS and GCP
- Clear, concise communication and presentation skills, demonstrating grace under pressure
- Ability to be flexible and adaptable in a dynamic start-up environment
- Genuine curiosity and a hunger for learning
- Strong desire to serve local communities and neighbors worldwide
- Experience architecting and building large distributed consumer internet products, especially social platforms
Compensation, benefits, perks, and recognition programs at Nextdoor come together to create one overall rewards package.
The starting salary for this role is expected to range from $183,000 to $292,000 on an annualized basis, or potentially greater in the event that your 'level' of proficiency exceeds the level expected for the role. Compensation may also vary by geography.
We also expect to award a meaningful equity grant for this role. With equal quarterly vesting, your first vest date would be within the first 3 months of your start date.
Overall, total compensation will vary depending on your relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
