Head of Engineering

Who You Are

We are seeking an experienced and talented Head of Engineering to lead our engineering team in developing and maintaining Spot & Tango's website and suite of internal tools. As the Head of Engineering, you will be responsible for managing the development process, setting engineering priorities, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality products that meet the needs of our customers. You are a highly-technical engineering leader eager to manage and collaborate with a motivated team of top-tier engineers. You are a confident leader and a highly-proficient programmer; you are excited to get your hands dirty to help build foundational technology in a fast-paced startup environment. You are comfortable using a variety of web development technologies, including React, Django, and Heroku, and can pick up new technologies quickly. You are comfortable with shifting priorities and can adapt to new + emerging business objectives. You have a strong track record of engineering work and team leadership, a desire to build software that is simple yet durable, and you’re energized by the prospect of making foundational decisions for a small and growing engineering organization.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage a team of engineers to develop, test, and maintain our website using React, React Native, Django, Heroku, Postgres, and related technologies.
• Lead infrastructure and architecture decision-making to ensure that Spot & Tango’s technology is built in a stable, strong, and straightforward fashion.
• Develop and implement engineering strategies that align with business objectives, timelines, and budgets.
• Collaborate with product managers, designers, and business stakeholders to understand and implement project requirements, as well as inform the development pipeline.
• Develop and implement best practices and procedures to ensure high-quality code and adherence to consistent software development standards (e.g., creating / maintaining code style guides, partnering with Product Management to create a strong SDLC practice).
• Hire, train, and mentor engineers to ensure the continued growth and development of the engineering team.
• Review and provide detailed feedback on code
• Implement a best-in-class code deployment processes
• Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and industry trends, and evaluate their potential impact on the business.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or related technical field.
• At least 6 years of experience in software engineering, with a minimum of 2 years leading a team of 8+ engineers.
• Experience developing and managing web applications using React, React Native, Django, Heroku, Postgres, and related technologies.
• Experience at a fast-growing ecommerce startup strongly preferred
• Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies and project management tools (esp. Jira).
• Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Experience managing remote teams is a plus.
