Head of Marketing, Opendoor Exclusives
Job Description
About Opendoor
Â
Founded in 2014, Opendoor’s mission is to empower everyone with the freedom to move. We believe the traditional real estate process is broken and our goal is simple: build a digital, end-to-end customer experience that makes buying and selling a home simple, certain and fast. We have assembled a dedicated team with diverse backgrounds to support more than 100,000 homes bought and sold with us and the customers who have selected Opendoor as a trusted partner in handling one of their largest financial transactions. But the work is far from over as we continue to grow in new markets. Transforming the real estate industry takes tenacity and dedication. It takes problem solvers and builders. It takes a tight knit community of teammates doing the best work of their lives, pushing one another to transform a complicated process into a simple one. So where do you fit in? Whether you’re passionate about real estate, people, numbers, words, code, or strategy -- we have a place for you. Real estate is broken. Come help us fix it.
- We are a “startup within a startup,” a small, cross-functional team working on one of Opendoor’s next plays. The specific opportunity we’re chasing is highly strategic with the opportunity to transform how real estate is bought and sold. It is also a product customers love, described by one of our early customers as “like shopping for a home on Amazon”.
- For the right person, this role should feel like the best of all worlds: the funding, supportive infrastructure and gravitas of a public company; with a full-stack, scrappy team building from scratch, immersing in customer needs, and iterating fast. Â
- Our team is unique within Opendoor, and also for the technology industry more generally. We have c-level executive sponsorship to move fast and independently, and to build from first principles. Our team has experience building from “0 to 1” at Opendoor, Square, Dropbox, Airbnb, Uber and Y Combinator-backed startups.
- This team is also unique in building a two-sided marketplace which is at heart digital, but with a physical footprint in the “real world”.
- As the Head of Marketing for Opendoor Exclusives, you’ll be responsible for shaping the identity of the product and how we take it to market. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, especially product management, to define our product positioning, customer personas, and craft our marketing strategy from scratch. Equally important, you’ll be part of the leadership team responsible for making the product a breakout success and expected to have opinions and impact “outside your lane”. Â
- Our hope for you in this role is that you can take something embryonic and over time, make it a household name in real estate.
- Product Positioning and Messaging: You’ll develop compelling and differentiated product positioning and messaging that resonates with target customers on both sides of our marketplace (e.g., both buyers and sellers), and across marketing channels, based on a deep understanding of customer pain points and needs. Related, you’ll oversee the voice and personality of the product, and ensure this is reflected in our product and interactions with customers, as well as in our marketing.
- Marketing Strategy and Planning: You’ll own our marketing strategy end-to-end across channels, markets and audiences (both sellers and buyers). Over time, this will evolve from testing channels to maximizing performance. You’ll also collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure successful execution of the strategy and to refine the plan based on learnings.
- Breaking through the noise: Our vision for this role is not only that we get the basics right, but that we’re able to achieve breakthroughs in customer awareness and adoption. In this role, you’ll strive to do both: make sure our bases are covered across our standard marketing channels, and also seek opportunities to innovate and to leverage our unique assets to achieve step-function improvements in getting our message out.
- Launches and Campaigns: You’ll plan and execute marketing campaigns and work with marketing channels and content creation to bring them to life. You’ll partner with the channel teams to continually optimize our marketing activities and maximize performance.
- Analytics and Reporting: You’ll establish and monitor key metrics to measure the effectiveness of our marketing. You’ll analyze campaign performance, customer engagement, and market trends and ensure key learnings are shared across the team in a robust feedback loop.
- Budgeting and Resource Allocation: You’ll manage our marketing budget, allocating resources effectively to achieve marketing and business objectives.
- Great at what you do: You have a track record of 10+ years marketing customer-centric products. You’re comfortable working across channels and straddling both brand and performance; you also have a nose for value and “usually right” judgment on what’s likely to work.
- Customer-first: You care about our customers, and you understand that we exist, first and foremost, to serve a customer need.
- A creative problem solver: You have a proven track record of thinking “outside the box” to solve complicated and multi-faceted problems. You think top-down, bottoms-up and from multiple angles to make sure we’re being exhaustive and generative in the way we tackle challenges.
- Passionate about quality, but also biased to action: You have high attention to detail and a high quality bar; at the same time, you’re willing and able to be scrappy, and know that the true test of an idea comes when we try it out with real customers in the real world.
- Analytical: You define from the outset what “success looks like” and hold us to that bar. You leverage data, both quant and qual, to inform investment decisions, and are disciplined and rigorous in measuring the impact of our marketing. You treat every dollar as your own and constantly look for ways to amplify the impact of our marketing.
- Humble: You’re able and willing to “flex up and down” and roll up your sleeves to do whatever it takes to make the product successful.
- A team player: You know you can only go so far by yourself. You are a great collaborator and are able to influence without authority and bring others along with your vision.
Hybrid roles require role responsibilities to be performed in the office for a portion of the week, with an option to work remotely. Candidates must be based within a 50-mile commuting distance of the specified office location.
Compensation:The pay range for this position in California is $248,000 - $310,000yr. Compensation may vary depending on relevant experience, skills, geographic location, and business needs. We offer a comprehensive package of benefits including paid time off, 12 paid holidays per year, medical/dental/vision insurance, basic life insurance, and 401(k) to eligible employees.
