Job Description
The Head of People will be the leader responsible for managing HR legal compliance, employee relations, talent acquisition, and employee engagement. Responsibilities will include overseeing implementation of the organization's mission and talent strategy; developing and maintaining HR policies; and managing payroll. This role will also be a partner to senior leadership with respect to culture initiatives that promote the company's values and create a work environment that enables team members to perform at the highest level. The Head of HR will report to the Chief Operating Officer, and will begin as an individual contributor with support from cross-functional colleagues. Over time, we expect that the role will grow into managing a dedicated People team. Location for the role is San Diego, CA or New York, NY preferred. Remote may be a possibility for the right candidate.

Job Duties:
People Management:
- Administers and oversees the People department and related programs including, but not limited to, compensation, benefits, and leave; disciplinary matters; disputes and investigations; performance and talent management; recognition, and morale; occupational health and safety; and training and development.
- Manage talent acquisition processes, interview kits, hiring tools, and department training plans, and take the lead in onboarding new team members.
- Collaborates with senior leadership to understand the organization's goals and strategy related to staffing, recruiting, retention, training and culture.
- Monitor and ensures the organization's compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws & regulations and recommended best practices; reviews and modifies policies and practices to maintain compliance.
- Develop and maintain People policies and the Ivy employee handbook.
- Oversee monthly payroll processing and any payroll related conflicts.
- Manage employee relations, policy compliance and discipline.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to establish coherent levelling, titles and comp bands across the organization.
- Establish and improve team member performance management
- Promote the company's mission and values in HR process and norms.
- Assist in org chart development by understanding the development plan and the key objectives of each role.
- Maintain knowledge of best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law; applies this knowledge to communicate changes in policy, practice, and resources to upper management.

Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field is required; a Master's degree is a bonus.
- At least five years of progressively responsible HR generalist experience is required.
- SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP or equivalent certifications are strongly preferred.
Salary Range
$90,000 - $120,000 (depending on experience)
