Head of Research

We lend active support to help build networks, accelerate go-to-market efforts, recruit talent, offer M&A and capital guidance and support other operational elements critical to market leaders in the software and consumer markets.

We are searching for a Head of Research to join our Stripes Scale team with the mission of supporting our Investment Team.  The Head of Research will build out and oversee our research and due diligence strategy for targeted thematic areas and potential investment opportunities and reports to Stripes’ CTO.

Responsibilities

• Create and systematize Stripes diligence playbook/approach
• Manage relationships with multiple expert network providers to lead deal-specific expert calls and provide findings to deal team for potential investments
• Manage relationships with and work collaboratively with survey providers to establish new and improved solutions for Stripes team to utilize for investment decisions
• Manage relationships with third party consultants and consulting firms deployed for diligence and codify when and how external consultancies can be used effectively as part of the research process
• Create catalogue of novel research approaches and resources outside of surveys and expert networks providers
• Work closely with our in-house CTO who manages our proprietary technology stack to incorporate new data sources into investment process
• Identify key thematic areas of interest and then conduct initial research/build investment theses in those spaces to provide guidance for Investment Team on where to spend their time
• Publish content based on the research conducted to add value to our portfolio companies, broader entrepreneur community, and the Stripes’ brand

Qualifications

• Experience in a Research or Consulting role; previous experience in Software and Consumer industries preferred
• Self-starter who works well in a fast-paced, autonomous environment
• Detail-oriented with strong project management and execution skills
• Experience managing small teams of direct reports
• Familiarity with how technology and automation can be used to deliver measurable business impact
• Team player - collaborates well with others for the greater good of Stripes
• Someone that is resourceful and takes real ownership
• Works well with ambiguous guidance
• A sense of humor and ability to have fun
