About the Role 

You will be leading the Revenue Accounting team, building and managing the day-to-day accounting and operations of our revenue function. Your primary responsibilities will be to oversee all core revenue accounting aspects including order to cash operations, month end close, and financial reporting requirements. In this role you will partner with a variety of cross-functional stakeholders including Technical Accounting, Finance Technology, Legal, and others. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in an established revenue function and be able to work seamlessly with cross-functional partners in a fast-paced environment.

Here’s what you’ll do day-to-day:

  • Manage and mentor the Revenue Accounting team responsible for revenue operations, month-end close, billing and revenue reporting
  • Review monthly journal entries and account reconciliations, and ensure timely and accurate closing of the books
  • Develop a deep understanding of Gusto’s revenue recognition policies and order to cash process to identify areas of improvement and opportunities for automating manual processes
  • Serve as the business lead in regards to maintenance of related systems (Zuora) and partner with Finance Technology to drive process improvements 
  • Partner closely with Finance, Product and Legal teams on all aspects of revenue, including advising on new products, and non-standard contract terms and billing arrangements
  • Work closely with the Controllership on implementation of strategic business and/or operational plans, projects, programs and systems
  • Partner with Financial Reporting and Technical Accounting on revenue and accounts receivable (“AR”) related footnotes (includes helping draft footnotes and prepare deliverables that will be maintained on a Q basis to support FN disclosures)
  • Assist the technical accounting team with adoption of any revenue / AR related ASU (for example ASU 326)

Here’s what we're looking for:

  • 8+ years of revenue accounting experience, preferably in SaaS
  • 3+ years of people management experience
  • Strong understanding and practical knowledge of ASC 606 and ASC 340
  • Experience with Netsuite and Zuora
  • Knowledge of SQL and general system implementations a plus
  • CPA preferred

Our cash compensation amount for this role is targeted at $124,000 - $153,000 in Denver & most remote locations, and $146,000 - $181,000 for San Francisco & New York. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate experience and expertise and may vary from the amounts listed above.
