What You'll Do
The Principal Financial Group is seeking a Head of Retirement & Income Solutions Content Strategy. This vital mentor will formally lead three teams (leader of leaders) across communications teams (individual/plan sponsor/ advisor/distribution partner segments, product and production), thought capital team (strategy, comms, activation, events) and product team (positioning strategy (products, services and experiences), sales enablement and activation).
This is a leadership role that will add to growth of the business through content strategy across product and thought capital and audiences. The leader will set broad content creation and strategy standard methodologies and critical metrics across teams. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in storytelling and possesses outstanding leadership, and partnership skills!
In addition, you'll:
- Drive the strategic direction of the teams across product, thought capital and communications teams responsible for content strategy, creation and execution of content initiatives crafted to improve business opportunities. Drive the coordination and prioritization of the teams' initiatives and projects to achieve stated objectives. Ensure resource utilization aligns with business priorities
- Collaborate with marketing teams and leadership to implement strategic projects and to ensure marketing initiatives are in alignment with the overall brand and business objectives. Ensure alignment with key business collaborators across distribution, customer care, and product leadership and develop a partnership approach
- Lead, develop, and empower staff in an environment that embraces change, champions focus, partnership, creativity, timeliness and results that are measured and recognized. This includes providing training, career development, performance measurement, performance management, and input into hiring, compensation administration and rewards and recognition activities.
- Drive the content planning, prioritization and execution. Direct and nurture the efforts of the broader content teams including the establishment of short and long-term goals/ initiatives, breakdown of work and budget allocation.
Who You Are
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent,15+ years work experience in a financial services organization, in marketing, communication or related field. Knowledge of the retirement market and products is required.
- Formal leadership required; leading leaders
- Requires the ability to drive the execution and delivery of full-scale, coordinated marketing campaigns for various channels and communication platforms, including print and digital
- Problem solving, project management, decision making & communication skills required
- Must be detail oriented and have excellent planning, delegation, and time management skills
- Lead expectations, attend to details, prioritise multiple projects
Salary Range Information
Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.
Salary Range
$174000 - $236000 / year
Time Off Program
Flexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal or short-term illness. Employees don't accrue a bank of time off under FTO and there is no set number of days provided.

Work Environments
This role offers in-office, hybrid (blending at least three office days in a typical workweek), and remote work arrangements (only if residing more than 30 miles from Des Moines, IA, or Charlotte, NC). You'll work with your leader to figure out which option may align best based on several factors.
