Job Summary:
The Head of Solutions for North America is responsible for leading a small team of solution architects in the region. This role, and the subordinate team, play a critical role in envisioning and designing solutions to meet the needs of our customers prior to contract award. Incumbents in this role will engage with potential customers, evangelizing Cubic’s products and services and influencing the solutions that our customers request through tendering processes. This position typically works under limited supervision and direction, and incumbents will regularly exercise discretionary and substantial decision-making authority.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the provision of engineering pre-sales support in the region.
- Leads a world-class regional pre-sales engineering team.
- Is a senior member of the Cubic engineering community.
- Participates in the due diligence exercises relating to partnering and M&A opportunities.
- Reviews and provides feedback on the work of other team members.
- Monitors, mentors, and trains less experienced staff.
- Maintains in-depth knowledge of our market, customers, competitors, strategic plans, products, and emerging technologies to enhance product roadmaps and customer solutions.
- Communicates technical advancements through briefings and technical papers, and prepare necessary program documentation including charters, plans, requirements, specifications, and testing strategies.
- Act as Technical Design Authority and provide architectural consultancy during the bidding and delivery phases.
- Develop and manage customer relationships to understand business needs, define technical solutions, and influence procurements by analysing requirements and identifying product gaps.
- Leads the production of technical sections of contract proposals and bids, collaborating with the engineering team on cost estimates and new capability development.
- Acts as a Product Subject Matter Expert for regional pursuits, bids & projects.
- Collaborates closely with the global product team, market and competitive intelligence resources, marketing communications, and regional management and business development team to drive the regional product strategy.
- Provides expertise on local regulatory and legal requirements.
- Ensures the interests of the customers and the region are represented in the global product roadmaps.
- Creates customer product transition/upgrade roadmaps for the region.
- Accountable for meeting or exceeding company’s product reuse target metrics.
- Shows commitment to company values, ethics, safety, security, labour charging, and quality.
- Comply with Cubic’s values and adherence to all company policy and procedures. In particular comply with the code of conduct, quality, security and occupational health, safety and environmental policies and procedures.
- In addition to the duties and responsibilities listed, the job holder is required to perform other duties assigned by their manager from time-to-time, as may be reasonably required of them.
Minimum Job Requirements:

- Bachelor’s degree in Systems/Software/Electrical Engineering or a related discipline preferred
- Significant relevant industry experience in a software design and development
- Experience in working in a senior engineering role with responsibility for significant aspects of design
- Proven experience in sales engineering activities including the preparation and presentation of responses to EOI/RFI/RFP etc.
- Must have experience in applying industry standard design methodologies using recognized tools and notation across enterprise solutions.
- Must have experience of working with internal and external customers and stakeholders to develop business and technical solutions.
- Must have experience working on projects with formal requirements management and traceability and on firm fixed price/schedule projects with earned value performance reporting.
- Must have excellent communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with diverse groups including executives, managers, engineers and subject matter experts to communicate new ideas/issues requirement or the potential downside of continuing development on any product that might no longer be delivering intended value to customers.
- Must possess a mixture of technical, business, and interpersonal skills to work closely with internal and external stakeholders as well as customers, management, vendors, partners and the broader industry.
- Must be willing and able to travel regionally up to 40%.
