Job Description

Reporting to the Executive Vice President Chief Supply Chain Officer you will work across the organization to guide through sustainability-related issues and opportunities, directing efforts to improve our position relative to competition and external stakeholder expectations. Promote internal sustainability strategies through influencing across the organization, coordinating goal-setting efforts, transparency and reporting activities, education of internal customers and working with external stakeholders on important issues.

You Will:

  • Identify and coordinate the development of internal sustainability policies, standards and metrics with appropriate organizational peers to further the sustainability objectives and strategies of the company. Assess ongoing materiality of sustainability opportunity areas within our needs.
  • Monitor emerging issues and opportunities related to global sustainability and initiates conversations with business leaders to determine materiality of same. Communicate changes to strategies and coordinates development of or modifications to existing policies.
  • Engage with business peers to assess business opportunities and risks and to direct actions on both corporate vs. product level sustainability. Consult on growth strategy to promote sustainability through product attributes and product level transparency.
  • Collaborate with Procurement on sustainable sourcing strategies; advise on main areas of focus, providing subject matter expertise and engaging with external stakeholders.
  • Provide subject matter expertise on sustainability matters to business and peers. Participate as a resource in the event of a sustainability related crisis.
  • Use influence to promote sustainability goals across the organization. Champion programs to make progress towards these objectives. Evolve and report metrics that define success and communicate progress internally and externally.
  • Provide input to acquisition or other related business decisions with a sustainability lens
  • Develop external partnerships to lead sustainability efforts, including involvement with trade associations, customers, academics, NGOs and other external collaboration forums.
  • Collaborate with Corporate Communications to implement a proactive communications strategy to promote our sustainability efforts to both internal and external stakeholders, including the annual Corporate Responsibility report, CDP, DJSI, government agency, credible NGO, trade associations and priority customers.
  • Collaborate with Supply Chain leadership to integrate sustainability strategies across the manufacturing platforms.
  • Remain current on global environmental sustainability trends, regulations and research.
  • Develop and manage department budget and small sustainability staff with focus on sustainability programs, metrics, transparent reporting, waste reduction and diversion, and product design. Staff may include scientists, engineers, data analysts, interns, and admin support. You may also have dotted line responsibilities for other people or groups. Must source and use resources beyond span of direct control, including identification and direction of consulting resources.
  • Travel up to 35% of the time.

You Have:

  • Bachelors degree required, in environmental field or related coursework; advanced degree desired.
  • Minimum of 10 years of related experience including direct or indirect personnel management and leadership in the CPG or food industry
  • Experience working with and influencing important partners related to corporate sustainability, including investors, retailer customers, NGOs, consumers, government agencies or academia
  • Experience influencing beyond span of control internally across teams and levels.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office tools with working knowledge of database and reporting tools.
  • Available to work during non-core business hours to support business.
