  • Obtain and Maintain a Class 1 crane operators license
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • A medical examination is required. If selected, satisfactory completion of a medical examination is required before assignment to the position.
  • Subsequent annual physical exams are required for this position.
  • Must comply with Drug Abuse Testing Program requirements. This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid stateside driver's license.
  • Must have or be able to obtain (within 3 months of assignment) a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL).

Seasonal employment means annually recurring periods of work of less than 12 months each year. In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic without more than normal supervision. To meet the screen out element applicants must show the ability to perform some tasks such as repairing, overhauling, and modifying equipment and determining the cause of malfunctions. I am skilled in repairing gasoline and diesel engine powered equipment to correct mechanical malfunctions; repairing transmission and brake systems; using various tools of the trade, such as micrometers, pressure gauges, engine analyzers and dynamometers to determine malfunctions; and checking vehicle components and operation to ensure efficient performance. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
  • PHYSICAL EFFORTS: The employee works in tiring or uncomfortable positions for long periods. The work requires frequent standing, bending, reaching, stretching, climbing, and crouching. The employee frequently lifts and carries items, unassisted, weighing up to 40 pounds and puts forth similar strenuous effort while pushing, pulling, and positioning parts assemblies, and equipment. The employee often lifts and moves heavier items 50 pounds or more with the assistance of others or lifting devices.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed both inside and outside. Inside work is in a well-lighted, heated, and vented garage building. Outside work may be performed adjacent to the garage building or in the field. Field assignments involve exposure to temperature extremes common to the normal construction season, and to generally unfavorable working conditions in as much as most heavy equipment repair in the field is in connection with ditching, levee building, etc. The nature of the work is dirty, greasy, and noisy. The use of hand tools in cramped areas and while in awkward body positions (bending, prone, or reaching) subjects the worker to possible cuts and bruises to hands and arms. Employees are required to follow established safe working procedures. Appropriate personal protective equipment is provided to minimize or reduce hazardous conditions, and its use is mandatory.
